I think you misunderstood me.

And I used to be a deluded Marxist so I know how you think.

Marxists aren't happy with simply improving the lives of the poor, like Old Labour. They see everything through the prism of class conflict. And yes, that includes the Gramscian notion of cultural hegemony - the idea that the bourgeoisie propagates its own values and norms by developing a hegemonic culture.

Take the example of Grammar Schools. And Old Labourite would see their success and demand more are built, especially in poor areas. The Marxist sees these as institutions as tools of the bourgeoisie - a way of actually turning the brightest members of the working class into the bourgeoisie. Hence, he wants to destroy them.

The Old Labourite wants to make everyone "middle class". The Marxist wants to smash the class system altogether.

It's got more to do with the police being institutionally corrupt. It's not like they do any better under Labour either. I think it's also a shortage of trained armed police more than anything else. I've been seeing news reports for years from the met saying they don't have enough armed officers.

Probably contributed in some way, but it was also the ignorance of security services to deal with the issues in the days and hours ahead. Tip offs that this guy was dangerous were ignored, and a woman even saw someone acting shiftily in the foyer minutes before the explosion but was basically patronised for jumping to the conclusion it was a bomber because they had brown skin...

Is Theresa May literally the most incompetent politician we have had as a Prime Minister in the past 40 years? Neither Brown nor Major could blow a 20% poll lead within a couple of weeks while benefiting from current events.

An election manifesto needs to offer optimism.

Wahhabism is Salafism, Wahhabism got re-branded after 9/11 and now being called Wahhabist is an insult.

Also I would like to add the Ikhwan were a 20th century Wahhabist army that formed the foundation of the Saudi Armed Forces.

If she had stuck to Brexit then the Conservatives would be breezing their way to a large majority. They got arrogant and decided to talk about social care, fox hunting and capping energy prices.

'Strong and Stable' may have been a term everyone was sick of hearing, but for the first two weeks of the election it was working.

The more she talks, the more issues they try to tackle, the more the Conservatives get exposed.

>The manifesto sounds very reasonable and has good policies.

Had to double check they hadn't changed the Labour manifesto. They have nice phrases and use some good buzzwords but the substance behind a lot of their manifesto is pure ideological fantasy where money and a globalized world isn't a real thing. The rich elite they bang on about has no reason to do what they request. There's a hundred loop holes around their proposals and all they'd end up doing is fucking over small businesses not capable of accessing the flexibility of the giants ultimately ending up in further securing the power and monopolies of those above.

The tremendous amounts of debt they could acquire through their policies as well cannot go unnoticed. Why people make out everyone wants to destroy the NHS apart from Labour is beyond me but at the same time you have to appreciate the limitations of societies capabilities to afford the extent of what the health service has become and how increasing the budget in key areas such as the NHS and other policies such as action to diversify will ultimately lead to loss of services elsewhere. If not then after 5 years of a Labour government we'd have increased our debt so much that defaulting sometime in the future is a real threat in which the NHS would definitely be hit hard.

Its inner city clubs that take advantage of these laws and encourage binge drinking and antisocial behaviour, your vision of rural and small town pubs being negatively affected is a joke. the only thing that these extended trading times do is let students get bladdered throughout the night in city centers, it doesn't encourage community spirit at all

what killed off pub communities in general was the more widely available booze from off licenses and supermarkets at cheap prices, combating club drinking degeneracy won't make things worse

>Since the early 1990s, the governments and intelligence services of other countries - among them the Americans, the Egyptians and especially the French - have seen Britain as Europe's soft underbelly. They are exasperated by our approach to terrorism. They are frustrated at what they see as our leniency towards Islamic fundamentalists. They accuse our politicians of hypocrisy - even conspiracy. They contrast Tony Blair's rhetoric about the "war on terror" abroad with what they regard as his different approach at home.
>In the 15 months since the attacks of 11 September, not a single person has been sentenced in Britain on charges directly relating to international terrorism, even though London is regarded as the international centre for Middle Eastern finance and media and has the fieriest Islamist clerics of any European capital.
>The French call it "Londonistan", or the "international sanctuary for terrorism". They have grown used to hearing calls from the imams in British mosques, notably at Finsbury Park, just around the corner from Arsenal Football Club, for a "jihad" against the west. They cannot imagine how spiritual leaders such as Abu Hamza al-Masri or Omar Bakri Mohammed get away with saying what they say at prayers or on radio and television.

>Much of the French fury is now directed at a single case. Rashid Ramda, an Algerian, came to Britain in 1992 and was granted asylum. Three years later he was arrested shortly after a series of bombings on the Paris Metro in which eight people died and more than 200 were injured. The Armed Islamic Group, GIA, an Algerian terror group later believed to have strong ties to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility. The French accused Ramda of masterminding the attacks - of being the banker and logistics expert - and requested his extradition. He denies the charges. Two other suspects - SmaIn AIt Ali Belkacem and Boualem BensaId - were jailed in France for their part in the attacks.

>Despite repeated French appeals, both Michael Howard and his Labour successor Jack Straw did not order Ramda's extradition. Within weeks of 9/11, Blunkett reversed that and signed the papers. Ramda appealed. His lawyer, Gareth Peirce, who successfully represented the Guildford Four and Birmingham Six, as well as a series of terrorist defendants more recently, argued that her client could not be guaranteed a fair trial in France. The assertion is based on evidence that BensaId had been the victim of police brutality during questioning. Bruises were found on his body and, after initially confessing and incriminating Ramda, he retracted his testimony.

Reminder that Diane Abbott feels that a defeat for Britain is a victory for her.

I agree after reading social media comments.

It does trigger me a bit about how fucking retarded most of the population are when it comes to British military action abroad.

They really do believe that the UK is throwing bombs around like nobodies business just hitting any old thing.

They fact that the UK hasn't caused a single civilian casualty in Syria is barely even reported.

The entire premise of your question is a mess lad
He hasn't 'closed the gap', it's backlash from the utterly disastrous tory manifesto launch. Most of the Labour 'gains' happened between the Saturday morning papers and the Monday evening attack. Since then they've begun to drop again significantly. Read the pollster's breakdown of when their data was collected.
Further, it's yougov, who are generally regarded as the least reliable major UK pollster, it was an online-only poll which historically have always favoured Labour, polls in general have historically over represented Labour and even if you discount all of that it's a single poll with a vastly different result to any of its predecessors so it's very, very likely to be an outlier. On top of that Corbyn's favourability ratings are still half of May's and in 'who would make the best Prime Minister' she's 30 points ahead of him.

Tories are still 10%+ ahead. This is a meme poll and will come to nothing.

That said, the tories brought it on themselves by taking their base for granted and trying to court the Labour vote.

>>
>>127175963
You've basically got it right

May is likely to win in that's why she's announcing her shitty policies like fox hunting and removing old people's fuel allowance. Due to this Corbyn is gaining points in the polls but whether this actually means he'll get more votes is questionable since polls have been shit last few years.

Corbyn is platforming as the give poor people free stuff, tax the rich and business, more money for everything government does, basic communism 101

Also nobody believes in May's immigration policies since they planned to cap them at the tens of thousands about 6 years ago and it's only risen to 300,000 per year

The only reason most are voting for May is because she's sadly our best chance for a half decent Brexit

UK politics is fucked in short

>you can't use a nuclear deterrent. that's not what a deterrent is

you have to be willing to use it, else its deterrence value is zero

>See Israel, who routinely change their minds about if they have nukes or not or how many. but everyone certainly acts as though they do.

the Israelis conduct airstrikes and assassinations abroad on a fairly regular basis. no-one doubts that they would use nuclear weapons if it came to that
