Gun control here is pretty much garbage.
Start reading into the various state laws (firearms are regulated at the state level, the NFA is an "agreement" between the states and territories on firearm laws but there still remains a fair bit of variation) you will come to the realization that these laws are overwhelmingly focused on legal possession and use.

It does absolutely nothing to prevent a 15 yo snackbar from getting a 38spc Revolver and gunning down a guy outside a police station. It also didn't stop a snackbar already well known for extremist views to the police and public from getting a Pre-96 pump action shotgun.

Some claim that less guns in licensed hands lowers the amount of black market firearms available through theft. But according to the senate inquiry into illegal firearms (initiated by now retired Greens senator Penny Wright) found that according to the ACC and AIC this only accounted for approximately 10% of illegal firearms recovered.

So what is the end goal here? Some might suspect that the aim is to make firearm ownership unattractive through making it inconvenient and expensive. Yet firearm ownership is already above pre-NFA levels. this might be why anti-funs like GCA and the Greens are kicking up a massive fuss over things like a lever action shotgun of all things.

The rules/laws in any country are only as good as the intelligence of those people.

The reason why the 2nd amendment is important in the US is because the vast majority of gun related crime is done by criminals, not the lawfully abiding and lawfully owned citizens. If you enforce gun control you'll only make criminals more powerful. It wouldn't affect the people the gun control law was targeted for. Why? Because criminals aren't law abiding citizens. They're criminals. Those are the people committing the gun related crimes.
