Because they tried to take it by force. Despite the silly claims of oil, the Falklands have never been economically worthwhile and are useless as a point from which to project power. If Argentina had simply been patient, the UK would have tired of paying each year to keep a very small handful of settlers happy. But Argentina jumped the gun and the UK doesn't want to look weak so now it's going to be at least until the UK dissolves before the Falklands become black again.

Falklands is a staging point for the elite to bug out to in a SHTF scenario. Have heard of former employees leaking about working on private islands with big underground and above ground complexes designed to be self sufficient.
