It's been patched for AGES, though. The way it worked was that Microsoft made some of its logs public for whatever reason, and user IP's were always included in the logs.

It's been patched since early 2015. Any IP's you get from it now would be from before then, since that's when the logs would've been generated.

The only other way to get somebody's IP through Skype is to use Wireshark and listen on Skype's port while calling the target. And, surprise surprise, you can't get call somebody if they're too dead to answer said call.

This would rule out the Russians. So if the Russian hacking investigation is still happening they would be avoiding this route which would dismiss their case entirely.

but any wireless AP's in the area he connected to would've logged it. I think even if they rejected the connection it would've been logged, both cases either temporarily or permanently depending on how the access point is configured.

Basically if you checked the router logs of anyone on the path seth rich took, trawled through them for the mac address of seth rich's phone, you'd be able to see where he want. Even what hospital he was taken to.

It'd be basically impossible to cover this shit up too, you'd have to go to every single open router, confiscate/check it to see if it matters or not - way too many people involved to do that without being obvious and just the act of confiscating/checking the routers would reveal the location anyways.
