The towers were full of aesbestos, btw. That's why port authority tried to demolish them. The floors were mostly unrentable. Obviously not the whole reason why it happened, but a useful perk for them. A lot of first responders did not wear respirators and got very sick. (((Port Authority))) measured the levels in the air afterwards for a few weeks. Probably way underreported the numbers.
