- Firefight ensues with the government troops.
- A policeman and 2 ambulance drivers were killed.
- Homes are being trespassed.
- Women not wearing Hijabs are being taken away.
- AFP received an intel that Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon was with the Maute group.
- Some buildings in Dansalan College were burnt to ashes.
- Most affected areas are Basak Malutlut, Sarimanok, Marinaut, Provincial Jail, Amai Pakpak, Bo. Saber, Sarimanok and most of the key intersections in Marawi.
- Marawi City Jail is on fire.

It's because of a broken system where all focus is aimed at the Manila area. Mindanao has been neglected for decades as most of the funds from all over the country is sent to the National Capital Region(NCR), leaving the region, especially the muslim areas, underdeveloped. This goes for Visaya too, although at a less significant rate.

First you need to understand the origin of Islam in Mindanao and its conflicts
Just like most of Philippines, Mindanao had a bunch of Hindu kingdoms in the begining(Butuan Kingdom)

Later on, the Caliphates of Sulu and Maguindanao are created before Spain colonizes Philippines.
Neither of these territories were ever taken over by Spain in their history.
Sulu Caliphate extended from Zamboanga to Sabah in Malaysia(reason for the Sabah dispute), and has a long history of being notorious and fearful pirates that even the British tried to avoid.
Muslim Filipinos are called Moros in general
Onwards to American-Philippine war, the Moros was one of the hardest forces to deal with. I am not even kidding, one of the primary reasons why the .45 ACP was developed was becasue the Americans had problems killing Moro fighters with their Krags and .38 revolvers lmao
Although they practically fought against the American colonizers all the way up to the beginning of WWII(they even BTFO Japs kek), most of the population was suppressed(which in turn prompted the rebellions)
After decades things eventually lightened after WWII with Philippines becoming independent

I don't know much of the history between this and the 60's, but under Marcos, the Moro rebellion starts for real, forming the Moro Fronts. This was also part of the time when the Christian population of Mindanao grew tremendously. This promted the Moros to wish for a seperation from the Republic of The Philippines, forming their own state called "Bangsamoro".

I've also mentioned how the lack of development in these regions has promoted extremism
Now this has been going on for decades, where MNLF and MILF in the end agreeing on peace talks, whereas lost commands and ASG kept on with their flipout

With Duterte's push for federalism, both MNLF and MILF are quite optimistic about peace being achieved with a Bangsamoro state being proposed as a part of the Federal state
