Too many people seem to think the civil war was ww2 and production was the only thing that mattered. The north in 1861 wasn't some industrial giant either. Hell outside of England and the low countries the industrial revolution was in it s infancy everywhere in the 1860. The war was won by the north because they had more men and more jew gold. A few more factories wouldn't have helped the south.

Remember that the war was fought by poor southern dirt farmers who willingly enlisted but were genuinely against slavery. Slavery fucked the cotton market up and if you couldnt afford slaves then you couldnt compete as a farmer.
