Just dropping in, so this may have been addressed before. Consumer protection under a limited government system could be achieved by voluntary quality testing by private third party companies who would do various chemical testing and the like and then approve the company putting a label on their products that indicates that the products are safe. The government wouldn't force companies to get testing done, but they would make sure nobody violated the trademark of a testing company by putting their seal of approval on something they have not verified. If a large number of different firms that perform quality testing exist in the market, prices for companies to get their products tested shouldn't be too high; as consumers will be more trusting of brands that are verified as safe, there will be an incentive to get testing. Such products can sell for more than their uncertified competition.

One of the most enlightening moments for me was when a friend of mine (supper commie) went to live in Hong Kong.

At that point I begun realizing economic migration is where people show what they really want, just like girls will tell you they want a good guy, most people don't know what they really want except when they are exposed to the market.

After that, it's all about seeing what would be necessary to improve this concept of economic migration to make sure new migrants who think a but really want b, wouldn't ruin it. And I realized that what was needed was simply contracts.

And that's (along with a dozen of books) is how I became ancap.

If companies decided to work together and coordinate an attack, would it still not be way less efficient than a nationalized army? If there is a disagreement between two generals, there's no minister of defense, or the like, to just decide who is right and get on with it.

The whole problem is you never explain why "le coercion" is wrong. It's just taken as a given combined with some godawful metaphysics about how "you own yourself" and other things you'd never say after reading an actual philosophy book.
