Math is unlike most other subjects in that nobodies can't really advance the field. Someone who doesn't know shit about chemistry could luck into some new understanding through a physical experiment. Randos discover new species of animals in the back yards all the time. Someone who's smart and dedicated can drop out of high school, teach themselves programming, and develop some software that changes the world.

But that doesn't really happen with math, because you basically only learn mathematics from mathematicians. And a mathematician is only going to teach you if you're a grad student in their school. I've never used it. desu I never use anything fancier than asmath and the nice latex chemistry formating packages (very good at writing complex chemical equations in very good font). I use chemdraw a lot but I find the image quality is lower than what the chem packages of latex offers.
