Oh, shit, is that Tokamak Energy? They're actually fucking awesome. I follow startup nuclear fusion efforts as a hobby, and Tokamak's come a long way in a short time. They're actually using very new advances in high temperature superconducting magnets to shrink the size of a tokamak, which previously has had to swell to great size because of the plasma geometry involved.

Pic somewhat related, this is a test reactor from Helion Energy, another of my favorite companies.

Fusion will allow us to produce massive amounts of concentrated baseload power, similar to what we get from coal and oil now. Solar and wind don't do this yet because their energy is not always available and methods of storing it are still not sufficient.

Additionally, the high energy density of fusion power will allow us to produce our own liquid fuels from carbon dioxide, which will allow us to stop creating excess carbon emissions from burning buried hydrocarbons.

The first molten salt reactor was built in the 60s nearly from scratch for 80 million dollars adjusted for inflation, it ran for 5 years without fault, it was the worlds first gen3++ reactor yet so few knew of it. We can have generation 4 fission that is 100% safe, uses a much more plentiful source of fuel, is anti-proliferation, can burn up spent fuel/'waste', can desalinate water and provide carbon neutral electricity within 3-5 years if the investment and awareness was there. Consequently the UK is looking towards gen4 designs like MSRs in a serious light and whilst fusion has huge implications for humanity fission to the standard of MSRs is do able right now today and could grant any nation full energy independence whilst greatly reducing the cost of energy.

Also there were tests with solid fuel engines, using gunpowder. They were shitty and had too many problems but essentially worked.

Fusion based reactors are much much safer and depending on what gets fused together (Deterium, tritium, Helium3 etc.) they generate less to nearly none radioactive waste.

If the retarded normies werent getting triggered by the word "nuclear" so much and we would spent a reasonable amount of money for fission tech R&D we would have much better fission reactors in no time.

I mean the US wanted to power FOBs with a specially constructed fission reactor in the 80s something. I.e. much much safer and GI user-friendly.

Currently we use 30-40 years old designs in our reactors.... if we would compare the advances in every other field, that is reducioulusly(sp?) long.

It depends on the elements getting fused together, as I said. There are tables online with different mixtures and the level of radioactive waste they produce. Look it up.
The cleanest, I think, was H3-H3 fusion.
Would produce less energy and be more costly but the cleanest.

It´s an compromise between effeciency and rad.waste.

In certain design you can also incorporate a breeding fusion along with the regular fusion going on, thus reducing rad, waste more.

Like adding lithium(I think, was it) to an ongoing H3 fusion.

>>126276572
Well, nothing is ever 100% safe. The airfilters of our coal power plants are also radioactive waste because of the uranium in our coal....
The thing is that we´ve spent only very small sums in r&d for fission reactors because of political pressure.
I´m quite sure we could have made some quite good advances if we only funded it in the past decades.

>they dont work, they cant produce more power than is used to contain the reaction
Till now, maybe it takes 100 years or what. But they do work. Just not good enough to get a positive power output.
Stuff like these need only one brilliant idea, one guy at the right time in the right place.

>never will
If I learned one thing is to say never say never. Specialists in their fields said "never" to so many things in the past. You can never fly with super-sonic speed, you never need more then 512kb of memory space in a computer, cars will never be a big thing, humans can never travel faster then 45km/h (or whatever it was) because we liquifiy, electricity can never be made usefull on a large scale, TVs will never work, TVs will never have colour, never this, never that.

Dont get me wrong here, there are things that are never going to work as published. Like the people claiming to have invented a perpetual motion machine or that they can live off sunlight only.... because it is stupid and disregards too many underlying problems.

But for fusion, we got a big example of working fusion during the day and our current reactors work as in they have a working reaction going on.
We "just" need to find a way to stabilize that reaction w/o dumping so much energy into it, but instead get a positive energy flow out of it after it started up.
Also, 2 years or so back, one testreactor reached a positive netflow after the startup. It couldnt hold that for very long though and the amount was small but it was positive.
Still, it needed more energy overall, for the startup, then it outputted in the end. The important thing here is that it didnt need so much energy during the running phase as it produced.

Though ,of course, that could also have been a PR stunt for the MSM.

>Helium shortage on market

Little known fact, but the US is the OPEC of helium.

>Helium production in the United States totaled 73 million cubic meters in 2014. The US was the world's largest helium producer, providing 40 percent of world supply. In addition, the US federal government sold 30 million cubic meters from storage. Other major helium producers were Algeria and Qatar.

The Germans originally designed the Hindenburg airship to take helium, but FDR refused to trade. I'm afraid the United States can't allow you to pursue this technology which might jeopardize our helium cartel.

It's even worse when you consider that just seven years before in 1924 the US had received the brand new USS Los Angeles from the Germans as a WWI war reparation. There was also active collaboration from then on between Goodyear and Zeppelin to produce the USS Akron and Macon.

>At the time, however, helium was also relatively rare and extremely expensive as the gas was only available in industrial quantities from distillation plants at certain oil fields in the United States. Hydrogen, by comparison, could be cheaply produced by any industrialized nation and being lighter than helium also provided more lift. Because of its expense and rarity, American rigid airships using helium were forced to conserve the gas at all costs and this hampered their operation.[11]

>Despite a U.S. ban on the export of helium under the Helium Control Act of 1927,[12] the Germans designed the airship to use the far safer gas in the belief that they could convince the US government to license its export. When the designers learned that the National Munitions Control Board would refuse to lift the export ban, they were forced to re-engineer the Hindenburg to use hydrogen for lift.

Fear not, you'll get a direct demonstration of the awesome power of fusion soon enough.

Nope, but the problem is that this isn't just "typo that spell-checker didn't pick up" like forgetting the 'u' in buoy. That I can forgive, because I do it all the time. This is a retarded cunt who deliberately typed something incorrect, thinking it was correct.

It's so fucking annoying.

Our language isn't just a tool we use to express ourselves - it's also a literal written and aural history of our culture and who we are. Expressions like "reining in" come from the actual process of "reining in" runaway or enthusiastic horses. It is a historical artefact as worthy and as valuable as the carriage the man doing the reining in might have sat on. It is literally history - OUR history. We have words like "freedom" and "justice" because somewhere, at some time, people had ideas that needed those words to be expressed. And yeah, Germans probably have words for freedom and justice and expressions like reining in too - but the words will have subtly different meanings, because they were developed in subtly different contexts.

Every time someone misuses language a piece of history more valuable than anything in any museum is destroyed because language is the one cultural artefact that everyone who speaks it can share in. There is no price of admission; it does not go on tour and become inaccessible to all except the select few in the select few museums that host it. You do not need to be a part of the cloistered academia to even get a chance to use it.

We are losing our culture, and the fuckwits who fuck up simple fucking things writing gutter articles when they are supposed to be guardians of journalistic integrity are abetting this decline.

Germany is a similar case, although as we all know, they were fucking crazy engineers, esp During wartime, but not only did the US kill or take all of the best engineers of the time, they also only gave Germany the same sorts of subsidies and patents that japan got, well after the people had been cowed and starved.

So not only did Germany get the boost Japan got much later, they also did so after all their best minds had been shipped abroad or killed for 'war crimes'. Be thankful that Germany even had the willpower to recover in the first place... not that they have recovered culturally of course, but then again, have the Japanese? (i.e. the cowed virgin tards who populated the first chans and are the market for anime)

A fusion reactor powers itself. It stops working during a loss of power. It literally just switches off. No Uranium rods to keep cooled or anything.

It's the safest form of power generation.
