They just had a riot again yesterday because they had to agree to another Troika austerity strike on them.

The thing is: They won't see a cent out of their surplus. It will all be used to pay denbts.

I don't get it, the Greek government made a profit, so instead of having to pay back the Germans they are getting more money instead?

Thanks to the budget surplus they can make debt to pay back older debt

Honestly it's in part Greece's fault for not being fiscally responsible. Without the bailout funds they would have been basically forced to declare bankrupt and become Argentina-tier

Greece is dumb as fuck

They combat their crisis by making it harder and harder for people to earn money and turn in a socialist state that steals from their citizens to pay back debt lol
>>
>>126139751
And you're even dumber for allowing them to spend your credit card..

You don't deserve any money back imho as a warning to you for future reference.
>>
>>126139168
>instead of having to pay back the Germans they are getting more money instead?
No, they have less debt now to roll over. The alternative was letting them default, i.e. not giving them a guarantee to roll their debt over.
But it's just not enough. They are fucking broke while being squeezed to death already. Let them go already and let's make up some transition gibs for them. After all it's still Europe.

On another note:

The German cuckoldry towards the EU was always been shaped in words like "We don't want a German Europe but a European Germany".
Not sure how much of that is left. Even our dumbest fuckwits of politicians (apart from the far-left ones) want to impress a German understanding of the world on Europe. And I'm not only talking of the moral imperialism that Orban complained about.
It's really everywhere, from monetary politics to labour organizations and environmental stuff to even simple things that were formerly a part of local culture and way of life.

And I really don't really see how Germany is now European - except for half of Europe migrating here because it's the last place where you can get a job and make money.

It would be an interesting question for sure. Ask the Greeks if they want to have their culture changed in ways that make them more similar to the German one but also more economically successful.

Or if they'd rather reject Germany's help and suffer through hardship for a while but retain their own cultural identity.

Both sides have pros and cons, but no one would ever dare to word the question so clearly. Instead they'll continue with half assed shit and going behind the back of the population.
>>
>>126146831
No, because then who would (((they))) launder money through?
>>
Last I read their new data looks rather fishy. Like it's 1980 all over again.
>>
>>126147052
>but also more economically successful.
Yah, no so sure about that buddy. Just look at their gdp growth rate.
Besides, cultural suicide sound infinitely worse than a bit of hardship.
>>
>>126147628
Germany, as in the country, has basically nothing. Weather changes so strongly between seasons that we go from people freezing to death in winter to people dying from heat shocks in summer, it has scarcely any natural resources (at least none that matter today) and there isn't much food provided by the environment, you need to grow and raise it yourself.
Yet Germany is an economic super power due to its culture (which borders on turning people into robots at time).

I am pretty sure that if you slapped German culture onto Greece, it would economically recover.

I do agree with you though, cultural suicide is worth than a period of poverty. Would still be interesting to see how the majority thinks about it though.

I have a friend who studies in Greece and told me that shops only work at certain days of the week and at only a few hours. Is this true?
>>
>>126150440
(I am not the one you quoted)

Yes, it is true. Greece has traditionally been full of small/family businesses, and these businesses could not have had their stores open 24/7. So they made it illegal for everyone, to keep competition down. Nowadays there are many exceptions to the above rule.
>>
>>126150754
>these businesses could not have had their stores open 24/7
...Why?
There's loads of family owned stores here and they all open every day of the work week and mostly Saturday.
>>
>>126153208
OK, "could" was too strong a word. They wanted EZlife (ie, "Just let everyone know that stores are open specific hours, and customers will adapt around that schedule").

Although I don't agree with it (I am in favour of competition), this made some sense back when Greece was more or less isolated with a small internal market. It did not make sense any more when we enter the EU, but voters demanded it so that small businesses leveled the ground a bit with the incoming corporation onslaught.

Nowadays the situation is better, although there are still some problems.
>>
>>126147884
> I am pretty sure that if you slapped German culture onto Greece, it would economically recover.
You can't just slap a culture on to something and expect a huge amount to change or for the old culture to go away, there are so many (actual) memes, ideas, etc. entangled up, do you know how complex culture is and how hard it is to get it to change?
>>
>>126158359
They sure as fuck managed to kill of large parts of the Prussian mindset, so it definitely doesn't seem impossible.
>>
>>126139751
It's literally logistically impossible for them to truly pay back their debt in normal terms though. They would either have to
a. Slash taxes and bring about a huge number of incentives to massively spur foreign investment and domestic innovation and increases in productivity through things like becoming an IT center, software hub, etc.
This option means they won't get the necessary taxes to pay things off
b. Continue with normal growth and raise taxes drastically
This means they'll choke their economic growth and even with good enough marginal tax returns won't be able to get enough total returns to pay off their debt. That's also coupled with Greece's large problem of tax evasion.
>>
I'm sure the submarines were worth it, though?
>>
>>126158473

Of course you can do that. Germans can make Greeks into Germans. Greeks just need to adopt our flag and learn German and accept our overlordship and governance - and eh voila, in a few years, they are perfect, hard working, wealthy, export crazy Germans.

I am not even kidding, this is 100% possible.

The "german" mindset of today is mostly just the Prussian mindset minus the war mentality. Of course it's a change, but you make it seem like some other part of Germany pushed their culture on Prussia, even though it was mostly the other way around.
For me it seems like even though most of Prussian (and German) culture in general has been lost or forgotten in recent years that's not because they got taken over, but because of several "influences".

No, they're legit.
People have been speaking about them since the 80s. Then all the data was 'lost' in the 90s and up untill 2010 everyone said that oil in Greece is a conspiracy theory.
Then Cyprus found a huge amount and the same vein runs inside our own seas.
Early studies suggest there's decent amounts in the Ionian as well, and very large amounts south of Crete.
We're talking about reputable professors here, not conspiracy theorist nutjobs.
We do have oil and we're gonna need it because who the fuck is gonna support all these pensions for the next 20 years when already 400k young people have left.

I didn't express my opinion on the current state of Germany at all, however it's a fact that at this point in time, Merkel is the de facto ruler over the EU and Germany is in the process of germanifying Greece.
You're not at all in a position where you could even try to annex us, whereas there's a real possibility of it happening to you under the guise of us helping you with "economic restructuring".
Which is why I told you to keep your delusions and pride in check. Being unaware of your own position is what probably got you into this mess in the first place.
Germany is in a bad position, but that doesn't mean that you could in any way capitalize on that or that you're in any better of a position.

tl;dr stay mad krauty
>>
>>126161702
Just because you have oil doesn't mean you can make an appreciable amount of money off of it. There are so many factors that go into it.
> Extractability, how you can do it, how much it costs
> Market saturation, if there's already a lot on the market you might barely make any money from it or none at all
> Quantity, if you don't have a good amount it won't do much because you'll be priced out by bulk producers like the Saudis
But the biggest is oil quality, if you don't have high-quality, sweet crude oil and instead sour with a lot of sulfur in it and you don't already have the refining plants built up from already being a producer than you'll have to export your oil for refinement and won't make nearly as much money as you would have from it. That was in large part Venezuela's biggest problem with their oil.

Yeah but how much of the time they spend "working" is actually working? That's one of the major problems of hours worked in terms of trying to quantify productivity, ask any German you come across what work is like even if they have low working hours, when they work they do fucking work and get things done. It's probably way different across different countries, but there's probably a lot of non-work going on in many Southern and other European countries.

Even if the preliminary studies turn to be a bust, all the LNGs and pipelines that will bring Israeli and Cypriot (both have started mining) oil and natgas into Europe will go through us, elevating our position.

Hans isn't an enemy.

We simply need to accept that salvation only exists outside of the EU. It's a model that served nice and less nice but developing Eastern economies. Greece is in a de facto economic depression despite the IMF using recession as a term to avoid having to anger our European partners.

Give national currency a chance and we will be out of this hell in ten years. While tech exports will be lower and all tech stuff infinitely more expensive like 60s Greece, food prices will be relatively okay.

Accept the necessity of abandoning our cushy western bed and we will recover.

If you just buy weapons with the money you get and to pay denbts you just raise taxes that business is dying even more then you'll never get your economy back and at some point, when Germany doesn't pay anymore because it's a Caliphate, you'll sit there with rusting tanks and no economy against Turkey who actually do have an economy.

>>
>>126172174
The fact is that Germany is pretty much the only country to benefit from the EU free trade and strong currency.
Exporters win, importers lose.
The EU was never sustainable in the long term.

>>126172174
> Maybe my understanding of this is flawed, but as I understand it, in /pol/ jargon socialism just means high taxes, welfare state and big daddy government, which Germany all has.
That's because /pol/ is retarded about the subject, socialism is basically the abolition of private property and the creation of a workers' state where the workers own the means of production and the second to last step to communism. What you just described is state capitalism with some extra stuff layered on, but it's still fundamentally capitalist underneath it. Private property, the most important part, still exists, people can still make tons of money off of merely owning and manipulating capital, etc.
>>
>>126172438
Germany DID dismantle other country's industry by proxy through EU policy and by outright bribing politicians to sell it for scrap metal/buy it and make it into scrap metal.

We have a few foreigners in prison for that, including our own politicians, more are going to get jailed soon.

Maybe that is what he was talking about ?

>Economic reforms
We would have much more radical economic reforms if we just put them out of the Euro, let them devalue their currency and thus encourage private investment in Greece.
>The 2008 financial crisis is something separate from Greece's cooked books.
Recognize the pattern: Banks do retarded investments. Tax payer has to pay if they lose their money. Tax payer gets nothing if they gain money. Jesus this isn't so hard to understand is it? Also read this: http://www.handelsblatt.com/finanzen/banken-versicherungen/griechenland-krise-deutsche-bank-stellt-sich-auf-hoehere-abschreibungen-ein/4653536.html
>Socialism works pretty great for Germany
No it only works for rich people. These are the people that hold shares of or own companies who employ cheap labor. This cheap labor is subsidized by the middle class (google "Aufstocker").

Refugees are here so that labor stays cheap. They also create vast amounts of jobs in the asylum industry who is basically another siphon for money earned by people with real jobs.

Our whole economy is completely artificial and becomes less and less stable with each day. One day this country will crash bigly. The elite will be long gone by that day. But you will have to stay in your caliphate.

Honestly didn't know that at all.
If that's true on a large enough scale to have actually made a country go from a trade surplus with Germany to a trade deficit, then I would definitely count that as leeching.
I don't really think this is the case though. German media reports pretty much every single bad thing you could even think about if it's about Germany itself.

I'm not rich and I'm getting a pretty good education for free. My city (Hamburg) is beautifully kept for the most part (at least better than most other cities I saw, including pretty much all American one's), healthcare is free (hospitals aren't healthcare in Germany though, they're health hazards, but as long as you visit a doctor instead of a hospital you will actually be treated well).
You can also get nice jobs and earn lots of money with the free eduction you're provided with. What's not to love (other than people trying to leech off our system)?

Explanations deffer depending on which school of economic thought you subscribe to but, I prefer to explain it with the accumulation of private debt that occurs during expansions by businesses and households.
Companies borrow to expand production as they expect a lot of demand, at some point that demand doesn't materialize and companies can't repay loans, companies default on loans, workers lose jobs, and then you have the classic spiral of less jobs>less demand>less jobs.
Capitalists are still human and don't make perfectly rational decisions.

>TAIPED, an independent organization not controlled by the government, catalogues every state property including resources and national wealth, to sell for "investments".
>"Investors" take money to invest out of the "bailouts", which were already meant for Greece anyway - so essentially they make their "investments" with our own money.
>Besides that, Greece doesn't receive the bailout funds itself, these go to pay old debt by creating new debt and therefore recycling the debt problem eternally.
>If fiscal targets are not reached, creditors according to latest MoU (voted only last night) can independently decide on more austerity until fiscal targets are reached, bypassing lawmaking procedures.
Oh we sure have been germanized!

So I guess it's wrong to say that the government doesn't pay its contractors, so we appear to surplus. Because the government is not in control anymore.
But yeah, just like it's been said before in this thread, the only reason we appear to have surplus it's because contractors who work for the government are not being paid. Also some pensioners and public state employees are not being paid. The government is unofficially withholding its payments to these people just to reach its fiscal targets.

Socialism is just a transitional state to communism. In socialism there's still probably a government which owns much of the property, money can still exist, a state as we know still exists, etc. Communism is basically stateless, the workers own pretty much everything, and there's no money.

Yeah but at this moment there is no way back. If now its almost impossible for Greece to pay back debt, imagine if they get kicked out of EU and have their own currency again... They would need to print like crazy to be able to pay back creating huge inflation.

Solution is not easy desu. If I would be an investor I would be pissed off to lose my money. But there is a moment you have to start doing the numbers and see if a small debt forgiveness would actually help Greece pay the rest of the debt easier

theres no offense taken, indeed we have a strong army for our size , i think we have more fighter planes and possibly tanks than germany and they're 8 times our size

what the problem really is the political class of this country has gotten /comfy/ and serves itself instead to serve the nation, political office is starting to be hereditary at least 3 families have 2 generations of prime-ministers papandreaou has 3G of prime ministerial service and his son entered politics (4th gen)

a cowardly /comfy/ political aristocracy.

thänk you it's a little more complicated than that. Banks.
Banks knew how much Greece had loaned itself, banks knew all greeks were in debt buying a home (classic Greek habit) Banks knew forecasts for next 5 years .

At some point banks realized Greece has by ommission or lack of expertise put everything on the line and we can presss, crash and basically grab it all . Lend them to get unpayable debt then accept all their property private and commercial for peanuts as recompense. Then bail them out after having OWNERSHIP of country (which has oil and platinum group metals by the way)

Not really sure what you even want from me.
At least a few people that gained from the bailouts are the owners (not small time stockholders) and CEO of the banks that got bailed.
