It was a massive hang-up for me. It was like making a clean break with the past. I was ashamed of how I was living, and I was pretty much raised by this website so I thought it was pertinent for them to know. I dropped off of university and fell into the underworld couple of months ago and that coincided with discovering Petersons material. Spent one third of a year as a completely degenerate neet watching youtube videos and smoking pot but now I've managed to get a job and am looking at starting new studies once I'm done with conscription. I would probably be in a lot worse place had I not discovered Peterson's lectures and Maps of Meaning in particular.

I can't remember the last time a Western army was used for any morally defensible purpose, or even for purely selfish ones that might benefit the citizenry of the state in question. There are undoubted personal benefits to service for those who survive without getting too fucked up. The US armed forces are the worst in this respect, of course, given your wealth and involvement worldwide, so maybe foreign militaries are worth considering instead? I've been doing more reading. Catching up on the Greeks and some Eastern philosophy as well as some literary fiction. Currently reading this behemoth, and it's definitely one of the best things I've read. Not sure that I'd recommend it because it's about 1300 pages of unbridled Elizabethan autism but if you feel up to the challenge go ahead.
