Multiculturalism is a fact of life in a technologically advanced world of trade, exchange, and movement of peoples. The global power centers are all becoming increasingly multicultural. Monoculturalism is a mark of primitive societies and will be remembered as a feature of early medieval times and before for societies largely cut off form trading networks. There's no return at all to racially homogenous societies for megacities. This is our future. We had better just embrace it and work with it or else we're condemning ourselves to irrelevancy.

Japan has a population 98.5 percent ethnic Japanese and it has a GDP of 4 trillion. It has also recovered from nuclear bombs and has lots of major tech companies. I'd say it's a fine example of monoculturalism.

What's your thinking on how Merchantilism plays into their culture?

Is that harder or easier with a homogenous ethnic population?

I think it's easier. Homogeneous groups of businessmen can communicate about products and business stuff easier. They have core similarities like race, culture, and language that make it easier to relate to one another and they don't need to accommodate for differences.
