Manager at a McDonald's here. These things are a fucking pain in the ass that don't make money. My store recently got renovated and had a few of these installed.

Not only do they make around $100 dollars a day, only after a few months do they pay themselves off. But there is a fucking glitch in the system that McDonald's corporation knows about. Where if the receipt paper roll ends up about half empty the whole system locks up, and it needs to be shut down and rebooted.

>>
>>110848323
We have a lot of this in Sweden. Self-checkout annoys me a lot in grocery stores, but I really like the fast food terminals. It's a lot faster, it's much easier, and you can do specific orders (remove stuff, add stuff etc) and reduce the risk significantly that they fuck it up. And if they do fuck it up, there's an electronic record of them doing it, the machine won't get your order wrong unless you're an idiot.
>>
>>110850463
They said the jobs aren't coming back anyway so why try.
Automation is bullshit though. It just increases efficiency not out right replacing the workforce. There are over a billion people living in abject poverty. That's over a billion people to produce everything for.
Even if automation was the miracle it's hyped up as people would just shift to a more culture focused economy.

Currently globalists are creating a service economy in Western countries so goods can be produced extremely cheaply in third world shitholes.
If you think a touch screen at McDonalds is the end of the workforce you are extremely naive.
>>
>>110851137

one of the issues with automats and vending stores in general is that regular people won't walk into an empty store unless they've already decided on what they wanted. Not nearly as many impulse buys either when someone is selecting from a menu rather than talking to someone.

Robots can only replace jobs that require little to no labor.

So most blue collar jobs are safe the remainder of our lifetimes.

However, white collar jobs are almost exclusively low labor. We're already on the way to developing small desktop machines that can replace most college grads for 1/100th the cost.

You can hear the fuse on your own petard.

>>
>>110851803
Small anecdotal evidence I can give just from my observations.

Most normal people don't want to walk into a McDonald's and have to work to place an order. So they go to the front counter and start ordering there. The second someone realizes that there is a front counter a line forms, and the kiosks go unused.
>>
>>110851666

>Historically though, automation never resulted in long-term unemployment.

This meme needs to really die, you can't compare what happened in the past to what is happening now, too many differences. I can guarantee the amount of jobs created due to automation are going to be less compared with pre automation. And with the worlds population set to reach 8.1 billion in 2025 you have even more problems.
>>
>>110851414
Automation just reduces the number of people you need to do a job. Did farming die when the tractor was invented? No it just expanded.
This automation meme is a symptom of too many people being detached from real work. Work in a factory and it will become obvious that machines can't do jack shit without constant supervision.
>>

>>110851414
I'm gonna tell you something that you're not gonna like and probably the world ain't gonna like but I'll tell it to you just like it is.

The real reason we have immigration is debt.

The average person is between 40,000 and 70,000 dollars in debt.

They can't take in anymore debt, because they can't meet interest payments if they do.

They are what you would call "debt saturated".

These people cannot drive the economy, because they can barely spend any money.

What do immigrants not have?
Debt.

What can you do when an immigrant comes into the country?
You can give him loans, goyim. Lots of loans with interest rates he's too stupid to understand, which he has to pay off.

And for each of these immigrants who takes a loan to buy a car, a TV, a house, or his new pair of shoes, you can just magic money out of literal thin air, straight into your own pocket. And you can count both the loan itself, and the items the immigrant buys, in your GDP calculations, so it makes it look like your GDP is growing.

But this pyramid scheme only works so long as you have a steady inflow of people without debt, Once you slow the immigration down or stop it, the economy slides into recession.

This happened in Japan - they didn't follow the immigration policy the west did, but they DID follow the other economic policies.

Now they are realizing they've "fucked up" and there's discussion of bringing immigrants into the nation.

That is all the reason why there is rampant immigration.
>>
>>110853030
>Are you dumb? Labor jobs are the easiest to replace.

Yet we replaced the cashier before the burger flipper?

90% of people worked in farming you dumb sheep fucker you should know this. Even that change we can't compare to the automation of today, China still had 80& of its population working in farming up until 30 years ago and they only found jobs in building the machines that will make them redundant.
>>
>>110853014

Actually they already have things such as self driving forklifts. A business owner working at a warehouse can program it to pick orders all day and not employ anyone.

Plus a large portion of the U.S economy relates to driving, that will be automated. No more truck drivers, cab drivers, Couriers, Postal workers etc.
>>
>>110853291
Because cashiers are labor jobs (hit buttons, count money, dispense change) and burger flippers require thought (Ensuring each custom order is made correctly).

If every burger was made the exact same way, they would have already been replaced, the exact same way all the coffee, drink, and ice cream machines are automatic.

Look at the number of industries that exist today compared to then. If you invent tractors then you need tractor factories and oil refineries and mechanics and engineers.
To say "ho-ho we've achieved everything, full capacity of industry" is the same as 16th century scientists saying "that's it, we've discovered everything"
It's completely delusional.

This kind of shit is why all cities deserve to be nuked. Such utter bullshit could only be dreamed up by retards who have been removed from reality and guaranteed survival for simply existing.

Shit I was waiting in line forever at PetSmart whole this dick bag is searching his email inbox for the coupon he wanted to use. Kek blue collar fags this delusion.

The criteria for automation is the complexity and repetitiveness of a task, in addition to the environment.

Yes, low level accountants and paralegals will probably be gone, as their jobs are repetitive and can easily be automated.

Mechanics, plumbers, electricians will be safe because their work environments make it difficult to automate their jobs.

Other blue collar jobs, like truck drivers are fucked though.

Mcy D's is a franchise, meaning they're not all a standardized corporate entity like CVS or Walgreens but a privately owned business partnered with Mcy D's to get all their food and shit from them.

That means depending on which one you go to and the number of brain dead niggers working there you get vast differences in the quality of the food.

Which is why most of us are cheering about the loss of the shitskin element in food prep and delivery.
>>
>>110854989
Some of them are alright. The biggest problem is that you get drips of flavoring from whatever the previous customer ordered. They really need to run hot water through the lines and blow them out with air after each cup.
>>
>>110854675
This.

Does anyone really think there are lines of people at the McDonald's warehouse individually making and cooking 68 million hamburger patties per day?

That shit got automated decades ago, and they ship the patties to each location.

A human is still needed to use thought to put the ingredients the customer ordered together (ie decide if the meal needs extra pickles, or no onions, or unsalted fries) but otherwise the process is almost totally automatic.

Machines can't even do simple tasks like picking up something and putting it down somewhere else without a guy ready to hit the stop button watching it constantly.
If you have a driverless truck it will crash within a year being generous.
Machines can't account for changes, they can't recognise mistakes or issues. A bit of dust can utterly fuck most machines.
The more complex the machine the more opportunities to fuck up.

You can make a machine that reduces the amount of people required for a process, but not one that outright replaces people.
Those other workers will just work on other machines and society will continue to expand and improve.

Nah senpai, just get your network engineering and security certs and you're set for life.

Just about everything being automated these days is going to require some type of network communication, add to that the ever increasing connectivity in the turd-world and you'll never be short on well paying work, everything from setting up secure private WANs for businesses and laying down rural w-meshes to reconfiguring cell towers for delivery drone C&C once that becomes a bigger thing.

You can even do security auditing on automated systems that handle money if you can get over the edgelord-y nature of such work.

Why couldnt i just tell the computer if i want extra of something?

I was thinking this the other day at the deli counter in the grocery. There were two people working back there slicing meat and about 7 people in line waiting. Weights are always a little above or below what you ask for, most of the time they try to slice things to thin so they just fall apart, and its taking them forever to take out one piece of meat and cut it then return it to the drawer and start searching for the next piece.

Seems to me like it would be way easier to tell a computer screen i want a half pound of roast beef and then have it dispense in seconds what would take an employee 5+ minutes, if they dont screw the order up of course

The only reason we have those jobs is because they serve individual people, and individual people can't afford all the machines they use.

You think you're anything special because you can unscrew a pipe or run a wire? Literally anyone could do it if they had the tool.

Hell, the only reason we still have mechanics is because it's too expensive to own the specialized tools. You can look up anything they know on the internet for free.

>>
Why are you all so fucking scary of the machines like the average people on hte street? The best thing that could happen is that everything that could possible be automated be automated, that would force a crisis and with it a change for a universal income or something like that. That would also force people to actually be able to do something that matters with their lifes instead of going to work to do something a machine should be doing. Can't you people understand that a human is not suppose to do a menial job? We are supposed to create stuff, to use our imagination, to better ourselfs. All this fear of changing is what helps the people in power to artificialy prevent the automation of things (also the fact that they are all greedy bastards)

I failed an emissions test and the code was a bad egr valve. A mechanic would have went straight to replacing the valve, then worked his way down the egr system till the code cleared.

Where as I hopped into Google, found a car forum dedicated to my year, make and model. That told me failure of the valve itself on me car is a rare occurrence and 9 times out of 10 it's the sylonoid.

5 minutes later I had a part number for a store that has it in stock and 20 minutes later it was fixed.

IIt's the end because this is the first class of people that is effectively shut out of the workforce. they're actually a lot better than ordering in person for several reasons, ill try highlighting some

- you can take as much time as you'd like. as an incredibly slow shopper in general i always take my sweet ass time with everything, and its nice not being forced to order
- the order is of higher quality because you can customize it better. until using the machine i didnt even know that extra patties on the mcdouble is only .60$, which is very cheap and a great deal. i found my orders to pick higher quality meals
- the best thing about them is avoiding lines. personally i avoid lines like obese feminists. like, i cant even count the amount of time i walked 30 minutes one way to a burger joint, saw a line of 4+ people, and just insta turned around and went home
- avoiding human interaction is a nice little perk

honestly they do the job better. lines are bullshit

>But replace people with robots and the only jobs that require skill are related to robot maintenance.
Not every job can be done with robots. I can say with great certainty that It won't happen in my career in the next lifetime. They will need a total human analog that can think for itself. You can debate semantics all you want about that, but Infrastructure work is not "absolute" and is not as simple as it sounds in writing....

On the other side of things are jobs. Jobs are not careers. Some jobs are very near automation, and most of these "jobs" are minimum wage type of things.....Anything that requires a person to walk to a counter and talk to a human being to convey a want/need is going to be replaced. Any task that is repetitive can be duplicated by a machine.

This includes the distribution of most consumer products from a hamburger all the way to on online order of any item. People want to bitch about not getting $15/hour at macdonalds, and they will be the first thing to automate. They will have a touch screen to order, and a few "robots" to make your meal. A small staff of humans could monitor the whole thing.....They may get $15/hour but that is because they are now "technicians" and not "cooks".

There will be a "skill gap" in the near future. There will be very little available for "unskilled" work.

The "robot" meme is real, but its penetration into the skilled sector could be impossible in some situations, or simply wont be cost effective.

Why to expect a miracle when you can see astonishing shit happening all the time? 3d printing, braincells being grown on a mouse, boston dynamics... a one single guy in my country coded an AI that learned how to bluff in poker though it wasn't even programmed to do that. The Austrian army once fought ITSELF after getting really drunk, when they were supposed to be fighting the Turks. Australia lost an official war against EMUS. BIRDS. The Imperial Russian Navy was defeated not by the superior skill of the Japanese sailors, but by a level of incompetence I couldn't replicate intentionally - and I say this as someone incompetent in many if not all aspects of a sailor's life. The British and Spanish once fought a war over a man's EAR.

And it doesn't stop with humanity, nor did it start with us. We're a BYPRODUCT of the real madness.

There's an entire astronomical object consisting entirely of alcohol, the stars in the sky make animal shapes when you connect the dots, there's a sea slug that looks like a bunny, and at any point the fundamental building blocks of the universe could fall out from under us, causing all existence to wink out and cease to be, and we have no way of proving that there are not, in fact, Elder Gods awaiting the day when The Stars Are Right to descend upon us and drive us all to madness. It's unlikely, but the chance is still greater than 0%, which is stupid in and of itself.

I prefer communicating with a reasonably well programmed machine to an illiterate immigrant.
Both is "work" - one job is easy, one is hard.
>>
>>110856535
Bit of truth here lmao. I work at a company that is trying to automate fucking everything. They have a machine who's job it is to take an object, put it into a box, then put that box into a tester. This stupid piece of crap legitimately can't operate by itself for more than 10 minutes. The thing has one of the simplest jobs in the world and can't accomplish it without 24hr supervision.

Automation causing unemployment is a myth. Fuck off shill
>>
>>110872937
Automation is merely a multiplier on employment; less people per factory, however it also means way the fuck more factories
>>
>>110858596
You typically don't need to input a pin number to order a burger.

Snatching them, however, automation doesn't change the ever-present threat of niggers. Just don't relax.

That's not even the right photo, retard
>>
>>110872774
Yea, I'm starting to believe that too. They expected the thing to run for days without management when they bought it 10 years ago. Now they have 3 of them, and still can't get it to work consistently. Oh well, at least I get a pretty sweet job maintaining the thing.
>>
>>110872937
This. Workers get a robot buddy they can order around.

It's great. Easy way to get rid of change too. Too bad half the time I go only cards are accepted.

Have had cashiers who don't know how to apply a gift card as payment. Got about 25 coupons for free 12-packs and it's so much faster to do them myself than let the worker figure it out.

I worked as a GEL and I had to wear this fucking white shirt and red tie and shit and harrass people to use the KIOSKS (if you say machines it sounds intimidating) and slowly but surely everyone started to love them. There's even more reasons why this is beneficial. The only problem is when the receipt gets stuck.
This job also allowed me to practice on my social skills and talking to strangers so much that I quit and now I am a hostage negotiator for the United States government.
>>
>>110848323
This is what happens when you raise the minimum wage of fat food workers. It becomes cheaper to have customers use self serve machines.

It's the same thing that happened to full-service gas stations.

Minimum wage made it too expensive to pay some random idiot to pump people's gas. So they invested into self serve technology to replace them.

The best part is that even if they removed the minimum wage, companies that have already invested huge amounts of money into automating are not going to just trash their machines and rehire. It's irreversible.

I liked their jalapeno version, but they raised the price and I refuse to be jewed into paying $0.50 more for less than $0.01 worth of extras.

I don't have a McDonald's in my town anyways, so it doesn't effect me that much. I have to drive a good 20 minuets for them or 5 minuets to the grocery store where I can buy an entire chicken cooked and ready to go.

That chicken lasts me two to three days depending what I do with it, so that is a pretty regular part of my diet. Also can buy a whole ham and eat on that for a week and a half then use the scraps to make one hell of a good soup that lasts another week or so for the cost of 2-3 McDonald's meals.

what crisis? transformation to automation is progressing slowly. People get to other jobs. No one really wants to work at fast food restaurans anyway. what happened when got to mass-production (tractors for fields etc)? Crying over automation is leftist propaganda who try to stop the progress.

>>
>>110890290
Just as an automated train still needs a conductor we will still need plantation owners just robots to replace niggers. It is impossible to fully automate all low level jobs. There will still be a need to maintain the equipment and ensure that it is functioning properly.
All i'm saying is that if you automate too much you will work yourself into a corner.
E.X. what happens when a new disease comes around to wipe out our mostly genetically similar crops? Without constantly monitoring on a direct level we could face a crisis
>>
>>110848323

Crisis? Don't you mean progress?

We're all tired of the shitty minimum wage workers that give BAD customer service. I'd rather deal with a vending machine. Only downside of vending machines has been the price because of the lack of competition (vending machines at college know they are the only game in town so they charge an arm and leg for a fucking pre-made sandwich but there is substitutes with dining halls and kids can still go off campus for fast food).

I look forward to drive thru's with automated order machines (just look at sonic's type of drive in but with automated machines, get your receipt and when the order machine says your order is ready, drive to the drive thru line -- get food handed to you right away).

No more fast food employees need muh healthcare and benefits, no more them going on strike to force a gun to their employers heads for higher wages that were never promised to them. No more employees calling in sick or crying about working holidays.

You only need one maintenance repair guy for a few dozen stores. Stores should have 4-5 machines so if one goes down, it's not an emergency. The store manager should be able to reload the receipt paper as well as fix the simple errors. The machines pay for themselves in a year when you consider the costs to the 2-3 cashiers per shift for two to three shifts a day, their payroll taxes, etc.
>>
>>110851785
it is the opposite for me. the regular line is so much faster because everyone is so goddamn shitty and slow in self checkout unless nobody is there and the only time that happens is in the middle of the night
>>
>>110848323
>Go to supermarket
>Buy kleenex and hand lotion

>>
>>110891646

>We're all tired of the shitty minimum wage workers that give BAD customer service.

Well, then pay them more and give them some sort of reason to be content with their job instead of having economic anxiety, living paycheck to paycheck.

>inb4 their job isn't worth more money

Their time is, though. If someone works 40 hours a week, they deserve at least a living wage.

>t-the entire working population will just become muh robot t-technicians over night

Net job loss will catch up and the only job being thrown out there for those "future jobs" is repair. Everything from minimum wage jobs, to blue collar, and even medicine with personalized healthcare is at risk and fuck all is being done about it.

The kiosks are low tech. I wanna McDonald's app so I can order and pay at home or on the way and drive through a prepaid lane.
