I'm not even "alt-right" unless you define it very loosely. I'm just one of the Asians (civ nat, libertarianish, mostly focused on being anti-SJW) who were at HWNDU.
Because of the massive spotlight, countless white people around the USA and the world will investigate the details of Charlottesville and realize that ANTIFA was the real trouble, and that the white nationalists/separatists/Spencerites/whatever-the-hell-you-wanna-call-them are advocating for something that isn't so bad to begin with. They say no publicity is bad publicity, and for Richard Spencer's side I think that's going to be the case. Years from now you're going to see many people who joined his "faction" because they were redpilled by this event.
Now, the alt-lite and the Trump administration will have to deal with the bullshit that comes with being associated with this. They're focusing on damage control. They're going to be distracted from advocating for and implementing their agenda.
So, I think people are generally right when it comes to the idea that Charlottesville is actually a gain for the alt-right. It was never going to get positivity from the powers that be. The main benefit comes from attention...and it got A LOT of attention. I think the alt-right is only going to grow even more rapidly in the coming months and years. The censorship/persecution from the government and companies like Discord is only going to backfire massively.
