what have you guys been making?
anyone make animals and know any simple folds?
Takeshi's buddha and a bird base dragon. Tried making Sleipnir the other day out of wrapping paper, but it was too small to shape (~2in long)

Cute trap.
>>531838
that's really intricate. what are the dimensions of the paper used for the taekshi buddha?
>>531841
not a trap, just an orphan
if some things are in motion and things cannot put themselves into motion then there cannot be an infinite regress of movers then there must be a first mover wait but that second one isn't right because that bullet that killed jfk and hit his bro wasn't moved by nothin

did this today. the dolphin is not very preety and the paper was 160g so it tore on the top.

which dolphin is that?
Recently I've made this baby dragon, design by Jo Nakashima, I think this one is the best one that i've made so far.
>>531921
Here you go. The paper tends to fray at the top of the head and shoulders from over folding but it isn't very noticeable.
I wore myself out with a few years of building mechas and thought I'd look for some more diverse hobbies. Folding 100x paper cranes to get the essentials on lock.
Help me name some potential pastel cranes, /po/!
Suggestions for beginner models that would look good in pastel are more than welcome.

Hey man. After years of trying to get into papercraft, waiting a long time to get a cutting mat, a set of blades and the motivation to get the printed paper, I did it last night.
I tried 2 designs: one of a tower in NY (citigroup center), and one from the link you posted.
Since this is a recent creations general, here they are.
The first one is the tower. It's a failed creation. I think it wasn't a smart choice for a first papercraft, since it didnt have instructions, and I couldn't find any online. At the end, I simply went into google maps and took a look at the base of the tower so I could finish it. Although it helped, I got stuck in a part where nothing made sense. I'll post my creation and the model.
I also failed in the steps/garden on the building to the left. Not sure if I can do this (I have big hands), but I'll try it again another day.
Also, the top left of the ground bulding has a missing section. That's where I couldn't figure out what the fuck to do.
1/??
>>538451
This is the model I based my failed creation on.
I'm not posting this to gain sympathy nor anything, btw. I think I need to post successes and failures to learn to take criticism.
Also, I had so much trouble with the "feet" of the tower. I ended up with feet with different heights (because how I glued one or the other), and although at first I got 2 to support the entire thing, I had to undo it because I thought I could do better. (I didn't).
2/??
>>538452
Now the bunny.
I actually want to make one of these for my girlfriend on valentine's day (june 12 IIRC in Brazil). So this is practice for the real thing.
I think it went way better than the tower: I could finish, there weren't many small parts and the glue was pretty strong.
I had some issues while gluing, like holding 2 pieces in the right place but letting go before I should, and the pieces kinda slide so they got glued off-position. This happened with the ears (that I also had some issues with folding), the front paws (which seemed off when I tried to hold in the right position) and the head. Now this piece almost blew it all. One of the sides of the head that I was gluing was shorter than the other, and I couldn't figure out why. So I left it at that. When I trying to mount the whole thing, that created a problem, so I had to cut a part of the back of the head to make it fit. Didn't ruin the whole look, but kinda put me off.
>>538453
I'm probably using too much glue, too. That's why there's bits all over the bunny (from my hands).
So I would like a suggestions on this: besides patience, are there any tips to handle/glue small parts?
Also, how do I remove glue without staining the completed piece? Or I should just use less glue?
As I said, I plan on getting one of those for my girlfriend. However, I want it to be based on our current bunny, which is a dwarf Hotot (pic coming). I think I'll try to modify the base file so it is all white.
4 / ??
>>538454
Said bunny. Apart from the colors, the only difference from the netherlands dwarf (the model) is the ears. Not sure what to do there.
Finally, I used wood glue. It's yellowish and it's a bit stronger than regular paper glue. It's also PVA.
Just finished this guy, had to restart halfway through because i done goofed. You can find the diagram online easy by googling "heavy rain dog"

You should try folding it using something better than copy paper...
Been making a bunch of Curlers (http://www.britishorigami.info/academic/curler.php). The picture shows my first attempt to make a icosidodecahedron from 30 units. It looks a bit sloppy because I used regular 9x9cm post-it paper which is a bit too big for this type of model, the inventor recommends max 7x7cm.
>>539705
... I wrote some more, but for some reason 4chan ate all text after the link. Anyways, the first picture is an icosidodecahedron from 30 curler units which I made today. This picture shows cuboctahedra from 12 pieces which are a couple days older.
https://www.pepakura.eu/all/animal-mosaic-lion/ Not really origami, but hey, origami is gay. :D
>>539715
>Not really origami
Well, this isn't an origami thread...
It's supposed to be "recent creations general", even if there are barely any creations in here.
>>531841
most definitely not
>>23825825
>>539701
It wasn't a copy paper.
I used A3 sheet of technical paper(not sure how do you call it in english) but not a copy paper
>>539118
looks rad anon
>>539727
Oh, I see! So it's a really big horse.
Anyway, you really should try using a more suited material for this kind of model.
I'd suggest the easy way: sandwich paper (or simply foil-backed paper, the same kind you usually find in origami paper packs).
>>539735
I just saw it and tried to do it, i didn't planned it.
I will use the sandwich paper next time.
Also i need to buy some 180g/m^2 paper for my papercraft and the only one i find is that glossy photo paper. Any idea where i can find normal one ?
Did the staff from skyrim recently, it's not completely straight but it's not visible on the pic. A little flimsy in one place too, but overally i am happy with how it turned out.

>>540513
>M41A Pulse Rifle
Looking good man, one tip I learned about papercraft is to draw down the edges with a matching colour penicl. So if you can find a green penicl to match it you can colour in the edges so they dont stand out.
You'll get faster at papercraft, but its the mess I cant stand.
>>540518
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it! I was thinking about colouring the white edges, might try it and see how it looks :)

Origami is tedious and unforgiving, and tends to attract really mild-mannered and withdrawn types.
My recent works
These two were easy, 1 page each.
>>541100
This one took me 10h to cut and put together. It has 5 pages.
I feel like I'm advancing (this is my 5th papercraft), but I still have issues with the glue. I'm using wood glue, but it doesn't dry quickly and is yellow. I end up using too much.
Luckly, I can remove most of the excess with alcohol gel (65% alcohol) without damaging the laser print. I found out that Loctite's Superbonder is NOT a good idea, as it dissolves the ink.

>>543721
by the way i wassn't there for a week, have we been "raided" ? there is only 5 page of threds now.
>>543683
From what i have seen lots of boards (euphemism) are said to be "bad" "worst than before" "never good" "the worst board" etc... Again from what i have seen /po/ is a pretty good board, though it's only subjective. However, what is objective is that i don't remember any dub checking back in the days.
>>532951
fag, do you prefer seeing traps on /b/?
>>543776
Dub checking is a very old tradition right?
From back when m00t hid the last two digit of the post number.
You had to mouse over the XX to check the numbers.
>>543804
yes, dubchecking is old, but it wasn't common on /po/ or at least not like recently. I far as i understand it the last digits were hidden mostly to prevent rolling, not dubchecking. By the way dubs (but not trips and higher) have been disabled on /b/ for a certain amount of time probably for the same reasons.
Anyway, i don't remember people compulsively checking every dubs on a thread on /po/ 2 years ago. Thanks to [s4s] and the person who created this shitposting iceberg tier pic i guess...
Finished this yesterday, it's my biggest Sonobe ball so far (90 modules).
>>543822
Can you throw it around?
>>543825
Yeah, it's very stable even without glue. Rolling and (Carefully) throwing is no problem. Though less stable than the 30 module version which you could even use as a football or cat toy without fear of falling apart.
>>543808
>Thanks to [s4s] and the person who created this shitposting iceberg tier pic

I'm making a lot of papercraft lately. Here's the latest, slight break from the Overwatch pepakura train. Robin's Levin sword from Fire Emblem/Smash.

You were only 9 months too late.

>>531837
>what have you guys been making?
nothing. Lately I just start stuff and never really finish them...
pic related, can you guys identify them all ?
>>543942
Why not finish them? The mammoth, cardinal, and koi look like they could easily be finished.
So I'm making pic related;
I've cut mine off from a base cardboard mask.
After spray painting it with metallic silver, some paint gets on my fingers after rubbing the surface.
Is it because the spray paint was applied on an ashy paper surface?
Any advice on preventing said paint rubbing off?
I was thinking of coating the face plate with glue that dries transparently to make it glossy and smooth before applying another coat of metallic silver.
>>543951
Cardinal and donkey only need MC finishing. Koi carp and seahorse only need 10ish steps to be finished (+shaping of metalic paper). The tarentula is also close to finished but i guess the shaping would take hours...
I don't really know why i don't finish them, i often find the shaping part tedious and a bit boring, so i start another model saying to myself that i'll finish the previous one later. The situation repeat and i don't finish anything.
Reaper mask this time.
http://kaiserlee.deviantart.com/art/Overwatch-Reaper-Papercraft-Mask-630519523?ga_submit_new=10%253A1472167238
>>543976
It's too bad you're in such a weird rut. Those are well folded, and some are so close to being finished.
Mostly everything I've tried to make has been a spectacular failure once I get toward the end of the model, where I have too much stress on the paper and it tears, or more precise folds start to loosen up or something and they throw everything out of whack. I haven't made a single intermediate model with success in a month and more. Feels so bad
yes and yes
Fuck me how slow does /po/ move, I came here weeks ago by accident from /pol/ and saw this thread?

yep, and the base isn't funny either... i don't know if i'll finish it one days. Using tissue foil would "ease up" the shaping but i can't imagine the horror of reversing all those creases with tissue foil...

All models exept the leaf katydid are made using homemade tissue foil, the katydid is made using double tissue. All papers are 25x25 in size.

Wow cool, I never considered making the paper myself thinking it would be too difficult to produce anything worthwhile but after looking up some guides, it looks quite simple actually.
Except now I need to hunt down the right materials.
Anyway, good job on folds, they look great.
>>545320
For tissue foil, as an easy starter, just use regular kitchen aluminum foil, white stick glue and tissue paper.

>tissue paper.
I'm not entirely sure what is meant by this, I'm not native English but I assume it's just really thin paper, right?
>>545390
in french it's "papier de soie", it's really thin paper, usually between 15 and 25 g/sm. In other languages it is :
seidenpapier
zijdepapier
papel de seda
carta velina
>>545391

Ah thanks, that's the word I needed.

>those disgusting nails
Just finished this geodesic sphere. It came out a lot sturdier than I thought it would.
>>546516
So those edge-only units aren't as flimsy as they look?
I'm interested in geometric designs, but I've never attempted one of those wire-frame models because they don't seem very "solid."
How many units is that? Looks like at least 90.
>>546520
Not that guy, but I'm pretty sure those are Francis Ow's Edge Units (I made a dodecahedron from a variation). The connections are a bit less sturdy than for example PHIZZ because the flaps and pockets are smaller, but well enough for handling. And I would assume that the more edges connect at a vertex the sturdier it becomes.
However, if you want _really_ stable wireframe models, I can highly recommend either Thomas Hull's PHIZZ modules or Heinz Strobl's Snapology technique.
Made this yesterday, based on a design by Yoshinobu Miyamoto (see https://www.flickr.com/photos/yoshinobu_miyamoto/5555289192/ for the template).
>>546524
(it's a bit meh, as you can see the white and blue modules don't really align "perfectly" with each other, I printed them with slightly different scales because I'm an idiot then tried to fix the sizes on the fly with scissors...)
>>546520
They are surprisingly strong. See video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UgrG8xxuMM
This model has 270 units, with three unique pieces. I based them off of a unit from a Tomoko Fuse book and adjusted the size of the paper for each unit to get the right dimensions.
>>546529
What do you mean with "3 unique pieces"? Aren't they all the same for the whole model?
>>546531
It's a geodesic sphere, so the lengths of each piece are not all the same. Read some stuff on this page: http://www.domerama.com/calculators/3v-geodesic-dome-calculator/
I used these three paper sizes:
2.5" x 2.5" (x120)
2.44" x 2.44" (x90)
2.13" x 2.30" (x60)
>>546548
Oh, interesting. I never looked too close into geodesic domes/spheres, and until now always assumed that they are built from equilateral triangles or hexagons+pentagons, like buckyballs. So buckyballs and geodesic spheres have different geometry?
>>546550
They are both based on the geometry of an icosahedron. A geodesic structure adds a bunch of triangles inside each face of an icosahedron to approximate a sphere. It's actually kind of cheaty, since the numbers aren't perfect or beautiful, but the structure you get out of it looks pretty good.
A buckyball is a truncated icosahedron. It's based on the same shape, but you lop off all the vertices and replace them with pentagons. All the edges are equal, but the angles on each face depend on whether the face is a pentagon or a hexagon.
Here's a truncated icosahedron (or buckyball, or soccer ball) I made a while back.
The module units there are from this site, though you have to work out which angle to put on on the end of each unit. They aren't all identical for a truncated icosahedron: http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~plank/plank/pics/origami/penultimate/intro.html
You should at least build the dodecahedron model from that guys site though, it's great, and relatively quick to do.
>>546551
I see, thanks for the explanation. Yeah, I made a bunch of icosahedra and a couple variations of balls and buckyballs myself, but always used edges of the same length, and modules where the angles at the vertices could easily be adjusted without modifying the module itself (phizz and snapology, here's one of the snapology balls). So I was a bit puzzled when you said the lengths are not the same.

A rose by naomiki sato.
It's from printer paper, i would like to make one rose from a better paper but i don't know what kind of paper i should take. Something like 90-100 gsm but less springy than printer paper maybe ?
any idea po ?

Is this the pentagon rose by Sato? I made one recently, and it objectively looks like trash compared to yours.

>>546987
I like this. Is it your model or did you get it from somewhere?
>>546488
Of course you can!
I'm really new to this. Start with models with fewer pages (it takes long to cut the pieces) so you get results faster, and they are simpler to make.
The cat was the most complex one I made, and it has tons of errors. I think I needed to print 3 heads before I got the right one.
>>536804
when i was a kid a guy used to make that exact same figure for me
Made these 3 little piggys yesterday, i'm working to make a real origami wolf (the current one is a stark direwolf papercraft). It's a model from gen hagiwara, in the book spirit of origami. They're pettry cool and simple (approx 40min each).
I settled on the wolf of hideo komatsu, i'm not completely satisfied of this model so if you have a better idea... The other good origami wolf i know is the one of shuki kato. The wolf of trollip is good but not is the position i want.

Been working on julian perdana's iron man mk7, though i have a problem and i hope any anons whove built this can help. Ive moved on the legs and so i have pretty much the entire lower leg built (on the right leg). The thing is however, the tube connecting the foot the support holding the knee and calf joint seems to be a little long, as it pushes the internals out; it does not look like it sticks out as much in the instructions if at all.
