Why doesn't Olympus just go full frame?

no ff lenses
would need to design new mount
basically need to design a whole new system from scratch
>>
Because you don't convince people to buy your stuff by bringing more of the same of what your competitors do.
If you want to sell, you have to offer something different.
Olympus' motto is fast & compact.
>>
>>3143118
seems to me like they can either do that now or get totally left behind within 2 or 3 years.
We're getting toward medium format sized sensors in DSLRs now - they need to catch the fuck up and fast.

>or get totally left behind within 2 or 3 years.
don't be surprised if in a few years Olympus entirely gets out of consumer imaging and just sticks with their medical equipment division

>implying there won't always be a market for compact systems
>implying MF digital cameras will ever be priced low enough for the average consumer, especially since new digital FF cameras are likely going to stay at the 1200-1500USD range at the cheapest for the foreseeable future (5-10 years)
>>

Their entire business revolves around selling f/5.6 equivalent lenses at FF f/2.8 prices.

Why would they want to end that?
>>
>>3143115
Because you choose the segment that deeply is relevant with your personal belief. Maybe olympus enjoys making cameras for hobbyists more and they believe that the best camera for hobbyists are small and cheap cameras that are fully manual but it makes you want to go out and shoot more because the shape and size and weight of the camera doesn't make you self conscious

>implying there won't always be a market for compact systems
cellphones killed of compacts, eventually they'll kill off meme4/3 and its not-so-big brother APS-C
>>
>>3143115

Didn't they patent two e-mount lens designs? Or was that one of the other micro four turds manufacturers?
>>
>>3143115
Because Sony owns that area
