I'm thinking about selling my Canon 5D mark II with the 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.8 and the 85mm f/1.8 and buy a used Sony A7s.
I prefer night shooting in cities etc. and some landscape photography, as well as occasionally some portraits etc.
The low light performance is the main thing pulling me in. I've thought about going for a Nikon d800 as well. The d8x0s seems really good for landscape and at least better at night shooting.
And tips or thoughts from you lot?

go with fuji
>>
>>3142972
Buy a 35mm f2 IS for steady handheld shots.
Buy a a7II for the same results with whatever lens you put on it.
a7s is for video.

A7S is fantastic for low light shooting. 12MP is more than enough if you don't plan to do large prints.

>>3143055
>>3143048
retards
>>
>>3142972
Either would be an improvement, but the A7S (II) is still the better low light camera. Go for that if you want low light.
>>
>>3142972
get a d810. i got mine for $1400 used on ebay with only 35,000 clicks. it has superior dynamic range, color depth, detail, ISO invariant sensor, and native 64 ISO.
>>
>>3143077
Maybe you got lucky, but this plan has two flaws: 1. Almost all D810 sell for $1.7k-2.2k.
2. It's a worse low light camera than the A7S by far, and that's the main thing OP wants.
Might as well suggest finding a seriously cheap A9 - at least that one is closer in terms of low light performance.
>>
>>3143081
he also wants to do landscapes and portraits which the d810 excels in. sure it might not be the best at low light but its definitely not bad. better than the 5d ii and as long as he uses a tripod theres really no problem. if not then iso 6400 really isnt as bad as some people on here claim. its still perfectly usable for web sharing. if you are patient you can find a good deal on ebay.
>>
>>3142972
Buy the A7S and mc-11 adapter to continue using your Canon lenses. You simply don't have that option going with Nikon and the A7S is the king in low light.
>>
Low light is a meme my dude. Nothing interesting is hiding in the shadows, except for low contrast ratios, color casts and ugly people.
>>
>>3143104
Idk man I just love the look, vibe and atmosphere you get. Even from night portraits in "natural light". Check out zerotwelve on Instagram for my favorite photog working it

>>3143103
Oh damn I'll check that out, thanks man
>>3143099
>>3143081
Yeah I'll think about the Nikon. Though it's quite a bit more expensive than the A7s. At least when I'm checking the used market here
>>
>>3143103
>a7s
>af
>adapted af
haha.

get the a7ii or bentax k1
>>
>>3143272
Adapted Canon lenses work extremely well with Sigma mc-11 adapter, even better than matabones and comilite. fuck off if you haven't tried it yourself and just memeing.

A7S still performs better than A7ii in low light, including AF speed thanks to being able to go up to 10k ISO without noise.
>>
>>3143071
Wait why is A7SII that much lower than A7S? Isn't it the same sensor just with added IBIS?

so dxo says A7SII ISO is worse (photography only?)
>>3143326
and cinema5d says it's about a stop better in video.
>>
>>3143220
>>3143103

a7s isn't fully supported by MC-11.

I believe a7sii isn't either.
>>
>>3143339
It does, Sigma constantly update MC-11 firmware. You should stop reading 2016 articles.
>>
>>3143341

It will work on the a7s and a7sii, but not at full speed, and not with pdaf.
>>
>>3143071
What does low light iso mean? I compared raw high-iso shots between Canon EOS 6D and Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. The difference is negligible. Still these dxo charts state 2293 low-light iso for the 6D and 2995 low-light iso for the 5D.

No, U.
The 24mpx of the a7II is for photography. The 12mpx of the a7s is for 4K videos and posting on the Internet. Have you ever printed a 12mpx file on paper?

You mean like 8mpx that result in 300dpi for a4 prints? Even 150dpi are quite enough even if it's below the print standard.
>>
>>3143405
>>3143381
How about going first for the A7S for the low light shooting first, then the A7R(II possibly) later? I don't really ever print anything, except for my sister when I take photos of my nephew, but she doesn't need anything larger than A4 at the most.
I've seen people do the similar combination so they have one for some stuff, another for some other situations
>>
>>3144489
Just get the A7S and be done with it. You won't be printing shit that requires high resolution.
>>

That name sounds familiar.
Is it a /p/ namefag?

As far as your question goes.
I have a 5D I also, and the only camera I consider retiring it for is the A7S.

Not sure what I'd do in terms of lenses though. Probably go full manuel.
>>
>>3144803
>Is [zerotwelve] a /p/ namefag?

He used to be, I think.
>>
>>3142972
don't be a retard, buy fuji x100t or an iphone and an old manual film slr that you can put in nails with

digital slrs are a bad, forced meme
>>
A7II with IBIS >>> A7S
If you shoot handheald you should get the A7II, the IBIS (In body image stabilization) gives you 4.5 stops advantages, so you can shoot at 1/25 and still have crisp images.

The A7S lowlight performance shines on tripods and in videos.
Also make sure you pick up the Batis 85mm 1.8 it has OIS. SO IBIS + OIS = overkill stabilization I can shoot 1/10 standing up and there is no blurr.

IBIS is way way underrated.

I found him through his japanpics posts on reddit. Goes by farewellblues. I love his work and style. Not sure why, the atmosphere he pulls off just really pulls me in.

>>3144809
I have a Canon AE-1 and a Bronica ETRSi so I'm covered.
Want me some digital, too

>>3144839
I have the 35mm f/2 with IS from Canon. The stabilization is really nice, but doesn't get me too much I feel like. The one you're mentioning might be better, but still. Going to get the Canon EF adapter and use my Canon lenses with the Sony I'm thinking
>>
>>3143279
youre literally retarded

he means 1st gen sony ff doesnt have phase af compatibility with converted lenses.
>>
>>3143381
>>3143071
i print A1 and A0 prints from a 12 memepickle camera and its honestly great when your not peeping on it from an inch away
>>
You can print A3 from 3 mengapexils. 12mp can put out huge prints that look decent up close.

Why are you even making a huge fuss anyway?
If OP wanted big resulution he's go for the camera with big resulution wouldn't he.
>>
>>3142972
Hold off till November when the A7iii is likely going to get a release date. Older Sony's are great but not reliable.
>>
>>3146010
I've already put my 5D2 up for sale.
Probably going for the A7s, but if the good deals suddenly run dry I might just wait
