Which one do you recommend? I use a D300 for work, and I'm searching for a more basic and lightweight equipment to carry around everyday.
I'm a babby-tier newfag who got a D3400 last week. 70-300 lens arrived today, and this is one of the """shots""" I took with it. Going to do more tomorrow earlier in the day.

From D7000 to D7200
D7500 got a huge downgrade. They removed the second SD slot, and also the ability to meter with MF lenses.
>>3140197
Lightweight? Go mirrorles
Functional and still cheap?
Nikon d80
>>3140224
Under expose. Try setting exposition compensation to +0.50.
i have a D3300 and it underexposes a lot.
>>3140231
also you don't have to always put the subject on the center.
>>3140247
Better that it underexposes than over. My d7000 consistently overexposes
d3300 or d5300
>>3140197
Can you still get the 5300, it's got more functionality than the others and is cheaper
>>3140224
Should have got the 50-300, the 70-300 is designed for FF with much bigger pixels so it is soft and kind of vomit inducing on crop.
Or get one of those cheaper old 300mm primes... oh, D3400, no screwdrive.
Well, you should have got the D7100 or D7200 instead or even a used D7000...
>>3140313
Common issue. Just set exposure for -0,7 (-2/3) and problem solved.
This camera is particularly good at lifting the shadows so you will be fine, I personally love it.
>>3142465
Ditch all the D3x00 and D5x00
Anything that has no screwdrive AF and indexing tab is trash fodder.
>>3140197
I got a D3400.
Pros
•1200 pics on one charge
•Video is very good quality
Cons
•Too many options override each other. Changing simple things like manual ISO without more than one auto settings changed becomes a pain in the menus.
•Loud as fuck mirror noises. The quiet mode thing is a sham, it is overall quieter without it.
•No legacy hand stabilization at all it seems, for lenses that lack that feature. I got the "18-55mm and 70-300mm" lens kit and using the latter one with video is like Michael J. Fox filmed it.
•No external mic port, though if you want good audio get a proper sound recording system.
•Buttons in odd places. I keep hitting them by accident when I need a good grip.
After like a billions settings and photos this was the best I could get of the moon with the 70-300mm lens. I'm waiting for another clear night to get more pics.
>>3142621
>After like a billions settings and photos this was the best I could get
surely you jest
>>3142621
>No legacy hand stabilization at all it seems
What does that mean.
And while we're at it
>most entry level Nikon
>has issues with ergonomics and advanced features
What's your point?
>>3142621
Jesus Christ Dude.
You Suck, not the Camera.
Took this one on a D3300, on a 70-300 zoom no VR, at 100 Iso.
Te moon is shinny has fuck. WHAT ARE YOU DOING NIGGER.
>>3142621
>using the latter one with video is like Michael J. Fox filmed it
yes, that's what happens when you shoot non-stabilized handheld telephoto video
also, youshould go on nikon patcher if you havent yet to see if there's anything you wanna add to your firmware
>>3142621
This is noisy as hell, some constructive criticism: Moon is super bright, you don't need to be over 100 ISO. Zoom as much as you can, tripod to eliminate camera shake. Avoid long exposures because it moves and stuff
>>3140197
I would consider the 5000 series over the 3000 series because of that tilty-flippy screen being super useful in a lot of situations and not something people usually take into account when grinding stats and comparing models.
But as said before, I'd consider mirrorless if it's for a lightweight every day carry thing. Sony A6000 series have the same sensor as the Nikon 3100+ and 5100+
But I guess you're looking to use your glass from your D300 so maybe yeah Nikon in that case
>>3142621
>Video is very good quality
ahahahaha
>>3140197
sony or fooji.
>>3143063
can confirm, used the tilt screen more times than i can count
>>3142853
My CoolPix L100 was better than the D3400, but it didn't have lens swapping of course. You'd think paying for a more expensive camera and "moving up" in their line of cameras would bring with it the same or better features. It's mostly just extra lenses, higher megapixels, and more noise. Some cameras have hand stabilization that turns on when the lens you are using doesn't have it built in.
>>3142820
Eh, I took about 200 photos before getting it "just right". Which is what you see in >>3142621
>>3142908
The D3300 is a different camera with different features. The D3400 of course is built off the D3300, but has a few differences, none of which make it better except for the extra photos you can take before a recharge. If the D3300 had that battery life, I'd have bought it. Also, does the D3300 have noise reduction, because I have it turned off in mine so I have clear images and the option to do that in post with photoshop if I wish. Hence the wild amounts of noise in mine. When I turn it on, everything looks a little blurry and more like your image without noise.
>>3142933
>nikon patcher
Thanks for the tip. I'll if it can remove the 30min video length limit. They only put that on there so the cameras are not designated as "video cameras/camcorders". I know you can remove it on some models.
>>3143261
It is. 1920x1080p 60fps 37,665Kbps. The audio is what sucks though.
>>3143433
>im adding digital noice on propuse.
Kiss.
>>3142465
D3300 is just an older and worse D3400, so strike that from the list.
>>3143433
>My CoolPix L100 was better than the D3400
the topest of the keks

Since the very beginning I was more attached to buying the D5600, but I'm ending with two. The final choice is a D5700. By various facts.
All wew great points of view, thank you for sharing. There's still a lot to learn to me.
Also I'm getting a used D80 for more battle use.
>>3143433
>CoolPix L100 was better than the D3400
Hahah hahahahahah hahhaahheeh hhmm ehm. So what you're really saying is that you don't know how to use your equipment.
I shoot a d5500. I like the pop out rotating screen for funky angle shots. Touch screen is nice. Built in wi-fi can import to my iPad anywhere. To each there own. But I like it.
