When I've taken pictures of lightning, I found the quality is much nicer on iso 400 with a wide angle very nearby a severe t-storm. The only realistic way of doing this is to find a bus-stop for shelter and work quickly to setup, take many 20 second exposures at random until you get lucky.

I didn't know what to choose, the house and the moon and the lamppost, so I kept them all in the crop. Just the lamppost makes it too boring for me, but if I include the house but not the moon, the shine from the moon is still visible in the upper-left corner..

I also have a couple of other shots of the same scene where the guy is walking in my direction. Too bad the lightning wasn't as good as in the one I posted.
He was also pretty upset because those two cages were locked and he could not get in.

As for the other picture, for some reason I like the fucked up white balance, I did it on purpose.

It looks like your focus is on the far left portion of the frame, try focusing further down the log. Personally I'd also try it with a slightly narrower aperture and go with a shorter exposure to freeze the water in place, or maybe a longer exposure to smooth the water out if that's your style.
