So, what gear would you use to photograph cars?

Wide angle something or other and a bunch of lights

if youre going to an event with moving cars like some racing id use a 55-200 or 70-300 with your 18-55 lens.
Personally id use a 18-200 fi you can find one cheap used , so you dont have to swap lenses at the event.
A wide angle is also very useful if the space is restricted, so you can be closer to the car and get everything in frame.
