hey /p/ what are your thoughts on the Sony Sel 30M35 30mm f3.5 Macro as a starting macro lens for an a6300 shooter? I know Sony has a 1000 dollar macro lens that is likely better faster sharper but I'm just looking to get stsrted with Macro.

Thoughts?

if you want it as an all rounder as well as a macro sure, but if it's just for macro AF is pointless and an older manual focus lens might even be better.
>>
>>3130807
I agree.

If you just want to do macro, use an old manual lens with a reversal ring, extension tubes or possibly even bellows.

>for macro AF is pointless

This depends on application. For high-magnification macro yes, for something like 1:2 it can still be useful.

Also, even if you don't use AF, having the camera automatically zoom in on the focus point when you touch the focus ring is a nice feature.

Interesting suggestion. I have a Helios 44-2 that is my fave lens to shoot with. Would an extension tube on that be better for me?
>>
>>3130807
>>3130823
Any recs in the same price point?
>>
>>3130741
Get a Minolta 50mm with the extension tube made for it. It's super sharp and can be found for like 80 bucks
>>
>>3131068
So for something like that it's lens>tube>adapter to E Mount right?

Also does a crop sensor matter at all for macro photography like in terms of what focal length to get?
>>
>>3130741
shit.
get an old manual focus macro 50mm f3.5.
if you can find a sigma 50 2.8, that will do 1:1
>>
>>3131094
Can I ask why it's shit? Just out of curiosity and so I know.
>>
>>3131096
no reach.
close focus is right in front of the lens that you will block any light.
only good for inanimate stuff.
image quality is just acceptable.
this lens is a waste of money for any serious work. it's a trap for noobs that will store it away to be used once or twice.
>>
>>3130741

The SEL50M28 is way better.
>>
>>3131103
So you think a vintage lens and tube is the best bet?
>>
Is adapting a Minolta 50mm f/3.5 MC QF a good idea? Seems like a solid piece of glass. Plus I'd have an excuse for an md to e mount adapter which I've been meaning to get.
>>
>>3131123
The newer md mount one is a bit nicer and the sharpest macro lens made for sr mount cameras

But before you do go to a local camera shop or two, if there's any in your area, and see if they have one. I looked for a cheap one for a couple weeks before looking at my local camera shop and found it for 80 bucks and didn't have to wait on getting it shipped
