Hey /p/ this is my first time on this board. I often get told that I take good photos. Which is surprising because I don't know of someone's being genuine or not and because I rarely do take any photos. I was hoping that maybe you guys can tell me if they are good or not. I took all of these on my iPhone 6. Because of the comments I get I've been considering getting a professional camera. Sadly I don't know enough about photography to know what camera I'd want. But even then I don't even know if any of these pictures are good. Feel free to criticize.

You're ok. Your friends are definitely flattering you, though. (Speaking from experience here).
Most of the quality of your shots come from the quality of your subject, though. The mountains and streams look great, so you can just kinda wing it with the shot and they'll still come out decent. Still, picking good subjects is half the battle of photography, and a lot of the shits on this board don't know how to do even that.
I wouldn't really bother investing in a DSLR unless you want to get serious, in which case you should study up on exposure, lenses, and composition. Your iPhone is fine for the point-n-shoot snapshits you seem to be doing.

if photography brings you joy and you have money to invest in a hobby, go for it

Aight thanks lad. I just didn't want to invested into anything if it unless I was some how good at it. I sorta felt the flattery but I was uncertain.
Also I should point out that iPhones do a lot of shit automatically, like adjusting your exposure settings and color grading. If you start shooting with a DSLR you'll probably be frustrated for a while because the shots aren't coming out the way you want, and that's because they expect you to know how to do a lot yourself.

Ignore pretty much all crit from people who don't know photography. In most cases they're just trying to be friendly, and even when they're not it'll be tough to get anything deeper than "I liked it" or "I didn't like it."
>>3118474
The catch is, though, that you'll get better IF you work with a DSLR and some editing software like Lightroom or Photoshop.
None of us are exactly born to do this. We all work hard to improve, and have been doing it for years.
So the real question becomes: Is this something you like enough to explore?
>>3118475
Yeah I'd probably look like a toddler trying to use a car if I invested into a camera blindly.
>>3118481
I climbed up a mountain door this picture. Had a couple of Asian tourists filming me because I was on a ledge that was probably 3ft by 4ft. This is my last pic but I'll be watching the thread for the rest of the day so feel free to criticize.

The only thing to tell you if you can succeed (unless you're absolutely ignorant and horrible), is how much motivation or drive you have. You can improve in anything with observation of your mistakes and working towards fixing them. Usually this drive comes from passion or at least liking the process. Good luck, the photos are quite nice though, which means you're not absolutely awful
>>3118482
Doesn't work for me. The details on the mountains are just too poorly resolved. Ergo 3/4 of the image look shit & the remaining 1/4 sky isn't really compensating for that either.
All shit kys

I think you should try to invest in this hobby.
You seem like someone that would really enjoy it. Maybe find some people to shoot with.
>Artistically vacant snap shits
>Camera auto sets everything for you
You basically just went to a place, why did you bother taking pictures of random rocks if you're not even going to try. You better be attractive because there's nothing in anything here that anyone should care about. Get some art books, photography books, pay attention to your surroundings and maybe kill yourself just to be sure.
>>3118550
>Le real art may may
Meanwhile I'm willing to bet your snaps are equally devoid of meaning. He might not be a master, but he's on the right track. Stop projecting your own inadequacies on random anons.
>>3118550
Ho boy lad. You're pretty upset for some reason. I don't know why but take a minute to calm your tits.
>>3118550
i remember the video that picture is from... he came across like a huge douchebag in it
>>3118561
Sounds like the OP of the recent portraits thread trying to duct tape meaning onto awful snaps of the redhead with the tampon
>>3118613
What the fuck are you talking about? What I'm saying is that meaning dosen't fucking matter. What matters is wether or not your pics look good. If they don't look good then they can mean whatever the fuck you want and nobody will fucking care.
>>3118454
Buy a camera if you like to take pictures and you want to know about it. It doesn't matter if you are good or bad.
Do something because you like it, not because it's easy

You've choosen great locations, quickly picked 1 shot, full auto iphone 6 "fake shuter" noise, and moved on.
for location scouting, great! paydirt!
go back with a camera & a plan (other than point & shoot)
2070 is my favorite

As this guy said >>3118470, it's not all terrible. You clearly have an eye for what makes a decent image. Some I don't like here, others I took a good look. If you can find something for cheap that'll give you an idea or using a camera you'll have fun. Alternatively, keep using your phone because as I said, you have a good eye for it. As anon said, subject is key.
