overpriced

Great glass for a p&s, be prepared to pay out the ass because of hipster tax. And when I say "out the ass" I mean as much as a proper film SLR and a couple of great lenses.

If you find it in a thrift store or garage sale and it's cheap then go for it.
>>
>>3118301
bad for a novice.
get something with some user feedback (read, slr).

The XA is a toy for the keen, expperienced, photoographer. The XA2/3 are junk.
>>
Also there are currently two threads where you could have directed this question instead of making a new one: the film general thread and the gear thread. Read the sticky before posting.
>>
A good small fixed focal rangefinder with great exposure control. Overpriced af, increasingly scarce. If you like 1)film 2)35mm fov 3)dicks in your mouth/ass 4)having control over your photo settings 5)trusting anonymous strangers on a famously toxic and trolly website, this is the camera for you. Alternatively buy one of the 82746482655 35mm autofocus compacts for $1 at a thrift store, shoot a roll or two through it and see how you feel about the experience, framing, convenience.
>>
>>3118301
the rangefinder patch is less than useless, skip the xa get the xa2 instead
>>
Overpriced, delicate, and finicky, but lens is nice and it's a nice compact package. When I first got my XA, I took the thing pretty much everywhere.
>>
Best affordable compact camera.
Great feeling, absolutely the stealthiest camera I've ever used.

DO NOT BUY AN SLR. Trust me you will, like nearly everyone, get it and then realize you don't want it. It will be too big to carry around and you won't ever feel like taking it with out.

>>3118345
>>3118500
Despite this and a tight ass VF, pretty fun to use.
Olympus at its best.

There's a solution to that. That little red piece of tape on mine makes the patch 1000x more effective
>>
>>3118301
Make sure the shutter works, the electronic shutter can be finnicky and fails occasionally.

I'm also using tape on the viewfinder like the post below. Helps with focusing a whole lot.
>>3118582

The lens might not be as sharp as the minox 35, however with the rangefinder the chance of you nailing the focus in the first place is much higher. It's a great little camera that's also got the benefit of being more or less completely silent. You can also modify the iso-dial to do exposure compensation on the fly.

Hello, I'm new to 4chan if you could explain how this page works

Great portability. Okay lens (the XA2 lens is sharper). Super sensitive and tactile-less shutter button. Focus patch can be dim but it's an easy fix. Controls are good, but if you have big hands can be cumbersome. Meter is fantastic. Manual film advance and iso setting don't leave for much else to break. Also makes it by far the most affordable, pocket-friendly camera with some manual control (Aperture priority and exposure compensation by adjusting the ISO).

If you plan to shoot lots of close focus / critical focus stuff (3m and closer) the XA is a good choice. If you are buying it mainly for landscape / far focusing the XA2 is a better choice (though the XA2 is fully auto aside from the iso setting).

XA pics huh. What if someone just comes in and posts any 35mm focal photos and claims it was shot on one? WHAT IF SOMEONE ALREADY HAS

Seriously though, how will these be any different (sans soft viginetting corners @f2.8) from any ol' 35mm p&s or prime? If anything the deceptively narrow framelines make a lot XA shots more snapshitty and less composed unless you crop them back to what you originally intended.

Does anyone know just how long the shutter can stay open on these? When I set my long exposure lowlight shots it just seemed to stay open till shit got exposed properly, with a little iso dial compensation help for the reciprocity. Several seconds, like. Was wondering if there's a limit to the exposure time.
