Starting to get into photography, specifically at conventions. Any tips in getting better? Any relatively low cost gear I should invest in?
Currently have a D90 w/ 35mm and 18 - 55mm lenses.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8D easily. It's around $100, is fast and will give you really nice out of focus backgrounds which is great for the type of photography you're into.

Get a flash, I personally like the Godox VING V850 because of the rechargeable battery and its capable of HSS
