What would you guys do with this image, particularly the dead dark-space to the left, in post proc?

Cropping? Level adjustment? Highlights? What's your general go-to or thought process for dark areas?

One thing that frustrates me is getting contrast without darkening the image heavily. What do?

Also general post-processing thread

Bumping with a few snaps from a local abandoned village and mental asylum where they've filmed a few horror movies over the years.

Tips for abandoned stuff also appreciated- I find the general rule of thumb for making them dark and applying a yellow rustic filter is generally terrible

This village had one of the first and best Burns units in the world and took on a bunch of plastic surgery work after WW2. The whole village including the nursing homes, rail-houses and manors began closing down last century when asbestos was found in much of the construction.
Now it's mostly dog walkers and urbex people

Interesting, HDR seems to help albeit a little less smooth
>>
>>3111488
i also tried some sharpening, which i'm still kind of a noob with, i don't know if that's what you're referring to by less smooth

i made the church a separate layer and everything except the sky into a separate layer on the abandoned manor. i did the same thing in the building in the last one, but only for some color balancing instead of brightness/contrast.

Why is digital so "harsh"?
I'm looking at the foliage and it is so fucking distracting compared to film.
Is Fuji the only company that can still have that soft and pleasing look in the digital age?

No. You may as well fuck off again.

Great contribution faggot.
>>
>>3111226
Lightroom has sort of graduated adjustment filters, that I have come to appreciate. They make it easier to pull hilights, push shadows and add color/contrast/whatever in a certa in spot without completely fucking uo the entire image. And before elitists come screaming, this shit was done with film as well.
>>
>>3111651
toughen up your retinas sissyboy, sharpness is the way of the future
>>
>>3111832
Literally any program that gives you a levels or curves tool does that you mongoloid.
>>
>>3111835
He specifically said graduated filters.

You just couldn't wait to sperg out like some dizzy little 5 year old could you. Well fucking done.
>>
>>3111846
>He specifically said graduated filters.
You think that changes anything? So you're aware, there's usually dozens of entirely different ways to achieve the same effects in any image manipulation program.

But if you want to just talk about "graduated filters", the gradient tool can work exactly like that aspect of Lr.
>>
>>3111849
Some basic gradient tool has the ability to control saturation, contrast, sharpness, clarity etc? Who's the mongoloid here? And why so fucking hostile anyway, did lightroom fuck your imaginary girlfriend or what?

Of course you can do all of those with layers and masks, but with much more effort. That one tool in lr is very useful for quick adjustments.
>>
>>3111900
Glad to see you went on to answer your own question, and as for the "much more effort" it's maybe three extra clicks if you're not a mongoloid and you know how to do things like create macros. Since you said it's "much more effort", then I guess you must be a mongoloid.
>>
>>3111904
Nah you just can't admit being a fucking imbecile.
