I wish they would do a Contax G2 revival. It's like with all the other good film cameras - what will happen when they'll break? All of them.
I mean all those mechanical Nikon f-whatevers are here to stay. But it's sad that eventually all the mju 2s and Contax Gs are gonna die.

It's sad that almost nobody produces 35mm film cameras anymore. Only ones that are left are xpan and Leica (?)

The G1 kicks ass, I've gotten rid of most of my other film cameras at this point.

Still need the 28mm though.
>>
The 45mm is the best lens I've ever used. Never quite liked the viewfinder on the g1 though.
>>
>>3110734
That is the only real issue as far as I can tell. People love to say the AF sucks, and yea i does miss on occasion but my EF mount bodies from the same era miss just as often.

The viewfinder is too small, and needs some kind of shade or cup. I live in Texas and shooting it with sunglasses on is really hard.

How do you objectively measure AF? A studio test scene I guess, but no one in their right mind would shoot a G1 for studio work anyway. I'll be the first to admit its not a great AF system, but its not as bad as everyone says it is.

>>
>>3111063
Yep, I'm using a techart adapter. It's pretty gud. AF is about as slow as Fuji's 35/1.4 on the first x-pro. Was surprised. When it works of course. It's hit or miss. 10% of the time it doesn't lock on to anything. It's ok though cos I'm not shooting anything that requires that quick of AF and I just use manual when I have to. What sucks is sony's horrid camera design prevents me from zooming in to check manual focus. Tells me "I have to switch to MF on the lens", which you can't do.

But yea optically the lens is good as any more modern glass (I mean, the lens is modern, likely made anytime between 1994-2005), not at peak performance wide open (but still nice) bokeh is only good when you're close to your subject, corners are iffy, but it's got lovely colors and a great 3D pop to the images

Like they were taken with a 40mm focal length. The rest is up to you, your focus distance estimation, your framing, subject and lighting choice, metering, the film you choose, the way they will be digitised. It's a decent lens with a shutter behind it, anon. The photos are the photographer's responsibility.

You can MF on both. It's not great though, so you'd never use it. Unless you want to try and zone focus for street stuff.

The G series is pretty amazing stuff. Great collection of lenses that hold there value because of Sony clucks using adapters. Pretty might a higher end point and shoot that can be fully manual if needed.

R-D1 is still the only non-Leica DRF, and it's the only DRF with a manual lever for charging the shutter. So if you like working a certain way, you don't need to be a hipster to own one.

Also I don't believe in the CCD pixie dust but it has one.
>>
>>3110893

They really should.

Offer some sort of trade in option for the few crop g lenses, and then kill off the whole crop line.
>>
>>3111193

The techart doesn't officially support the original a7. It is considerably faster on an a7ii.

If you set it to dmf, you can autofocus and use the focus mag to check focus btw.
>>
>>3111709
cv rangefinders usually have something leicas don't have, no matter how much money you throw at leica. for example, R-D1 having mechanical shutter cocking, or r4 or r3 having framelines that no leica has

Christ I'm tired of the "hurr durr Canon shadows meme." You can lift shadows 2.5-3ev on just about any Canon sensor if you kick in a little NR. The newest ones let you lift 4-5ev.

It was never as bad as the Sonikon fans made it out to be, except maybe on the 5D3 thanks to shit banding that limited you to 1ev.

>>3114674

I want to love the very idea of this camera, but then I look at its lens selection and three out of nine are toy or body cap lenses. The fast standard lens costs the same as the body. The sensor is still just a 1/1.7" piece, like a medium-end compact.

Most egregiously, shutters are leaf and in-lens, so adapted glass only runs on an electronic shutter. Surely 1/1.7" could've admitted a leaf shutter in front of the sensor? Or a focal plane shutter for ants?

It's pretty much a premium camera marketed to Japanese schoolgirls (only place it sells). Where cost efficiency is concerned, you really gotta like the idea of the Q to justify the prices involved. Having said that, the sensor punches well above its weight. When paired with high quality lenses, you might be surprised to know the images came from a 1/1.7" sensor. You can pixel poop at 100% crop and find clean images.

The lens selection is alright for what this is, it's missing the macro lens though. The 2.8 telephoto zoom is excellent and I continue to lust over the wide angle zoom, which is another great lens. This is my most used camera that I take everywhere, so I'm okay with investing good money on it once in a while.

The lens adapting gimmick got old quick for me, but some people have built some impressive telephoto rigs around this camera. If you're really serious about it, Pentax makes a 200 dollar K-Q adapter with built-in leaf shutter and aperture ring. Metabones also makes an obscure Nikon-Q speedbooster. MS-Optical made a 25mm 1.1 for the Q-mount, the only such lens Miyazaki has made for a non-rangefinder mount as far as I know. It's super rare, I'll probably never find one.

I shot this pic with a Pentax c-mount 16mm 1.4 wide open, it's my kit's pseudo-macro lens (only 30 dollars shipped). Could've closed it down a bit for better results, but you can hardly tell once it's been resized.
