i recently started using Rollei Rpx because it was the most sharp and cheap film my local store had, pic related
(its a bit outfocused because my zenit pentaprism is filled with mold)
People here will probably say Tri-X.
HP5, XP2, Rollei RPX, 400S, are also good options. Really, it depends on your personal preference and what you're shooting. You could buy a roll of each off of ebay and see which one you prefer the results
I only have experience with trix, but I think this anon is right >>3109771 buy a some rolls off of ebay and see what you like. Also try googling '(name of film) flickr' and you usually can roughly see ehat each film will look like
Fuji Acros 100
Also reciprocity failure only starts to kick in after 2 minutes.
acros 100
not as versatile but i swear by it

RPX is cheap(-ish) and good, like not quite in same league with hp5+ and tri-x good, and the 25 ISO version supposedly has ludicrous resolution in a darkroom print. But yeah, Acros 100 when you're looking to do hi-fi things using hi-fi gear; it generally looks really good even in a flatbed scan.
Really, just buy what's cheapest to you.
