My phone is getting close to overtaking my DSLR (t2i) in quality, and I don't have the 1000+ needed to upgrade my dslr to a better one.

I think I'm just going to stick with my galaxy s8 now (pic related). The slightly more megapixels of the t2i isn't worth the lense swapping, huge body, tripod, etc of dslrs.

I had to reduce it a little bit to upload it to 4chan. 5mb limit for a photography image board? That seems dumb.

And yeah it's not perfect, but I counter with 2 points.

1. No one really zooms in and pixel peeps. The general public just looks at the final zoomed out image.

2. You could zoom in and pixel peep my t2i images too.

Wait until you're good at photography to get a good camera. You don't know all the benefits you're getting if you start with the best. It's good that you stick to your phone for a while before switching to a DSLR, you'll appreciate it more.

Nah, DSLRs are just dying. You had a point about 5-10 years ago when cell phones were shitty and DSLRs were so much better.

Now a days though unless you're going to a professional photo shoot with a model or a wedding, the phones are a better bet. DSLRs have not improved that much in the last 5-10 years.

Funny you should mention that. Most people also use phones or small laptops these days.

It's like this forum is stuck in 2010. I get that you want to justify your $2,000 dslr that shoots a million shots per second with 72 autofocus points, but the fact is that most people just see the zoomed out normal image, say "neat", and move on, regardless of whatever camera you have.

Even a toddler can turn the aperture ring to the lowest available f stop and snap a pic of whatever piece of vegetation comes first in reach of the autofocus.

We've all been there after learning what does "bokeh" mean, really. Now go read some books about composition and the exposure triangle, then go out to take a hundred more pics and come back again in some weeks.

Honestly it's a tough call between them, the bw one plays well into the disadvantages of the picture and brings more focus to the birds but the coloured one gives a bit more life to the photo. I think I'll go with the black and white though, it just seems to appeal to me more.

Generally speaking the most interesting photos aren't of backs, but this seems to otherwise be well balanced and somehow have subject isolation despite everything going on all around it. You also generally don't want to center a subject unless there's symmetry.

Looks sharp in the centre but soft around the edges. There seems to be a bit of vignetting in the corners as well.
