OH FUCK
I guess its that time in the year where i LUST over the idea of buying a Sigma Merrill camera.
Should i pull the trigger? What are the main (and effectively practical) differences between the DP2 and the DP2s?

I've always wanted one as well, but their plagued with little quirks and are not very practical.
Still, I've seen many pics on flickr and I am always amazed with the IQ. Photos from these cameras look like fucking film almost SOOC.
Foveon cameras blew my mind when I first saw what color details could be captured.

I won a Sigma DP2 in 2010.
It was a piece of trash.
Hopefully the Merrills are better.

Shit camera. I had it and it has garbage dr, the battery lasts 20 minutes, and the software is fuckawful to edit. Also, sooc jpegs are shit.
Fuji has better color and you're better off with a fucking bentax k3 for the money

>Shit camera. I had it and it has garbage dr, the battery lasts 20 minutes, and the software is fuckawful to edit. Also, sooc jpegs are shit.
i have to echo these statements, and also add that anything over iso 200 is borderline unusable. there is a noticeable and awful red/green shift/tint which is super obvious in any grey areas (like clouds) that just ruins everything (pic related).
i was super stoked about this camera, got one and a few weeks later went out on a month long trip from morocco to london shooting with it. i knew about the awful battery life so i carried 3 batteries with me whenever i went out, which would all be dead by the end of the day. no big deal really as im used to shooting with film, so i just treated each battery like a roll of film (ridiculous, i know, but i really stretched hard to justify this camera's quirks because i really wanted to like it). and i cant stress how awful the proprietary raw software is to use. its abysmal.
in the end, i dont like to blame my equipment for my failings, but i barely got a single shot i liked out of the entire trip. the camera was just so uninspiring to use. it was like i was constantly fighting it. night photography is a complete no-go with this thing, which is where i like to do 90% of my photography. if youre literally only taking pictures in daytime with abundant light at iso 100 you may get some use out of it, but even then that's a big if. anything indoors is going to be terrible. the af is slow and clunky and theres no usable manual focus to speak of.
my 2 cents: skip it and get a ricoh gr.

but on the flipside, shots like this taken during the day with low iso do give a glimmer of hope. the resolution was insane given absolutely perfect conditions.

>no loud screeching
>not shitting/promoting other vendors out of the blue
What is this madness on my /p/
My shitposting aside, even as a guy who's not interested in getting a point and shoot (of that's what their category is called), that felt useful to read, so thanks desufam

i try to save my autism for my day job. i do hold out hope for the sensor tech, as it was awesome in the situations it was designed to work in. just really disappointing everywhere else. the form factor, poor iso, and proprietary software in these really hold them back from being great.

that image looks literally like ektar.
>>3108424
hah, yeah maybe. now imagine shooting ektar at night on an f/2.8 lens with the worst AF system you can fathom.
