Reversing Lenses
Anyone have any experience with reversing lenses for macro shots? I want to get a reversing ring for my Minolta but I'm wondering if I should get one for my 28mm or my 50mm. What would be better and how hard of a time would it be to put a lens reversed on a zoom, considering both lenses are manual focus. Also post macro photos you took
It depends how much magnification you want. Shorter focal lengths have more magnification.
Your field curvature will be wack. Expect soft as fuck corners.
Just buy a fucking extension tube.
I seriously cannot believe that this a thing.

Well thank fuck there's at least adapters involved - here I am thinking that there's a group of people fucking jamming their lenses backwards into the body and making it work somehow
>>3104211
why? i do dslr cuck scanning with it, works coolio.
>>3104211
It's been a think for a long time as well
>>3104211
Why? It just werks (and has been around for decades).
Doesn't work well for every lens, but the performance and field flatness of my Schneider-Kreuznach Componon-S 50/2.8 are both significantly improved when reversed (when shooting at 1:1 and higher magnifications).

I had more luck with reverse mounting one lens onto another, a 50mm on the front of a 100mm was my go to.

on that topic, why are F-mount extension tubes with AF 30-35 dollaroos

The wider angle lens you're reversing the higher magnification rate you'll get. On my 18mm I get about 4x magnification but it's also hard as fuck to focus because depth of field is so thin, with 50mm shooting is much easier. Note that you'll need to close down to at least f/5.6 and use 1/200 or above shutter speeds to get something else than just blur.

Mounted my camera with some reversed 28-50mm on the microscope instead of the normal magnification head to use the fine drive. Think I took these at 50mm 3.5. Stacked 12 shots per side.
The shorter the FL, the higher the magnification and the smaller the DOF.

get extension tubes man, even if they are cheap MF. if you are shooting macro you will already have enough things to worry about when composing the shot.

20eur reversed minolta 50mm; full size for nice detail.
If you seriously want to get involved in macro, a macro lens is probably best. For testing a reversed lens can produce equal results.
