I know, right? Me and you, 40mm bro!
>>
>>3100720
On full frame?
>>
>>3100720
Don't even tell me you can tell the difference between 50 and 40 mm when it comes to composition.

You can buy a Nikon pancake 50mm for 50£ while an Ultron is 6 times that amount.

Loads of wank lads.

Pentax Q-S1 was my first digital camera and the 8.5mm prime is about 40mm equivalent on a full frame. I think this is the reason why I got so used to this field of view.

On a full frame manual focus camera, 40mm is probably the longest focal length that I am comfortable with using zone focusing.

>>3100876
I would probably qualify 40~45 range of focal length lenses (ff equiv.) as being in the same category. Prime lenses in this range usually share the same characteristics, very small without suffering major drawbacks for being tiny.
>>
>>3100741
Why does it has iso settings on the lens? What mount is that?
>>
>>3100892

It's m39 but only works on Soviet Lomo cams from the 50s. It is the only lens available on that cam and the settings for the light meter and all that bullshit are on the lens. isi uses one and swears by it.

That canon 40 is glorious piece of shit. I do terrible things to mine all the time because it's so fucking cheap you just don't care. It's a lens cap you take pictures with.

I have that exact same lens (but in white, it was cheaper).

Picked it up grey market off ebay.

Only got it because I found an MC-11 for like half off and wanted to give it a try. It works pretty damn well.

Though honestly, I prefer my Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4. Not as fast autofocusing, but an absolute dream to manually focus.

Techart Pro? What body?
>>

On the a7ii.

It is like 90% as fast as the MC-11, and loud as hell.

But it is pretty awesome.
>>
Loudness ain't an issue when you can literally AF any lens. Planning on upgrading my NEX-6 within the next two years and the MC-11, LAEA-3, and Techart are going to be must buys. And Sony AF-S is supposed to be worse than AF-C from what I recall. Is that also true for the Techart/MC-11?

Oh yea, it is definately a fantastic adapter, and I love the shit out of it. But the noise and battery drain are my only complaints. It isn't quite as perfect as I was lead to believe.

AF modes work the same with adapters as they do with native lenses.

I honestly haven't used AF-S on my camera very often, but from what I hear the eye-tracking on newer models is absolutely fantastic.

I have the LA-EA4, not the 3, because I have quite a few screw driven lenses. Fantastic adapter, though if you get the translucent mirror dirty you are fucked, no way to clean/replace it.

You get what you paid for.
I got the newest version and in the studio, stopped down, it performs very well, but anywhere I want to shoot wide open, the bokeh is so bad I would rather go through the effort of shooting my lynx 14 to get the beautiful bokeh rendering.

I will post examples soon when I'm home

Physically the 50mm STM is hard to fault. Optically is just as good as the average 50mm. Wide open performance is not great as to be expected from a small cheap lens. If you want to get good wide open performance you need to pay the price and weight of something like a Sigma Art 50mm.

For the size the 50mm STM is perfect for canon full frame DSLRs.

telephoto gets shit on for 2 reasons that I can think of.
1) they are not selected for their compression or other effects but for staying a good distance away from your subject, like chickenshit "street" photographers who want to shoot from across the street.
2) used by middle aged balding dudes for shooting birds at the local park who chose their angles and boceh so you almost don't see the houses in the background. these men have no creative skills and often carry around $25,000.00 in gear to shoot a robin or a finch and might get the occasional chicken hawk.

macro is often wider than 135 and you usually get close enough
>>
>>3102960
>macro is often wider than 135 and you usually get close enough
As long as I'm not a cuck for using a macro I'm happy. That being said I do have a shitty zoom for shooting birds with but I'm not sitting on a park bench with 2 grand worth of lenses
