is it?
>>3100556
depends
>>3100556
maybe
>>3100556
Possibly.
But seriously, it does depend. It's pretty useful for video and a few other instances. Personally I prefer EVF.
>>3100556
Of course it is.
Before digital cameras with live view it was impossible to take a photo.
>>3100556
sometimes
>>3100556
it's not strictly necessary for stills, but it's very useful for shooting at weird angles
Totally not needed for still cameras, as they do not need video either. If I want to shoot video, I will buy a camera thatdoes that.
Is viewfinder necessary?
Is the OP's exitence necessary?
>>3100556
Depends on the setup. I need it for manual focus because the viewfinder on the d3300 is so god damn dark.
I find it useful in two cases 1) taking photos of thing high up or low down or at an awkward angle and 2) when you want a stranger to take a photo of you. PEople are just used to liveview style viewfinders nowadays.
Under certain circumstances.

Go to the settings and use the green dot focus confirmation. I only use the live view to quickly check the exposure on non CPU lenses.
>>3100556
yes for mirrorless. yes for video. good luck with those two without live view.
>>3100556
Is it necessary? No. Is it useful and nice to have? Absolutely.
>>3100556
It's never necessary but it can be very helpful.

>green dot focus confirmation
Holy shit! I can't thank you enough for this one! I didn't know that was a thing! Thank you thank you thank you!
>>3100556
live view is fnatastic for shooting from different angles, good luck getting your eye to the viewfinder on the floor or 2 feet above your head.
I use live view to get the correct exposure, it's pretty convenient.
>>3100556
I'm not a faggot YouTuber, so no
>>3100556
Not, if you have a waist level viewfinder
>>3100556
you can't find camera without LV now, so it's not really an important question, is it?
i use LV when i have problems with fine focusing on far away landscapes or on the night photos. AF won't always catch the bright star right (to focus for astro), LV and my eye focusing it manually surely will.

If you don't use a prehistoric Single Lens """Reflex""", live view is nice, especially indoor, or when you use fancy positions
