Guys Im getting these two but have no idea what are they called, could anyone help with recognising?
>>
>>3096534
Got the bottom one, FED5
>>
>>3096534
Top one is a Kiev(КИEB) contax III copy. They were pretty common just after ww2 when the russsians had stolen the zeiss/contax tools at Dresden.
>>
>>3096561
Sir, thank you kindly
>>
>>3096561
nigger they were made as late as '87, still with the same old copied 1/100 1/50 etc shutter speeds.
>>3096534
Kiev4M with Helios-103 prime (Гeлиoc) - cyryllic for googling purposes.
Fed5 with Industar-62 L/D (Индycтap л/д)

How much are you buying them for and why buy two rangefinders with nearly identical specs, the kiev being far superior to the fed in many technical aspects?
>>
>>3096631
It was bargain on polish gumtree for equivalent of 10 quid + smena 8 - all with cases
plot twist is that guy claims hes not capable of telling whether they work on not
>>
>>3096637
No to nieźle. That's a proper bargain. Remember to only change shutter speeds on the FED when the shutter's cocked, lest you fuck it up. Both cameras have quirks, you should read up on'em before attempting anything, shame to accidentally break either of'em.
>>
>>3096657
Huj. Thanks for that thats why I wanted to make sure what models are those to check some tutorials etc, they dont seem as popular as Smena etc. Just hope they gonna work, see ya
>>
>>3096534
There's a reason why they're so cheap ya know
>>
>>3096534
Used both, they work well and can produce good results if you know how to handle them. The Kiev is clearly the better one of these two - better lens, larger rangefinder base, etc. At my copy the lightmeter worked and was quite accurate. What bothered me was the fact that the imposed rangefinder image turns the opposite direction of how you turn the focus. Nothing bad to say about the Fed, but it's nothing special either. Use them and see if you like rangefinders, at this price you won't regret getting them.
>>
check if the metering still works. they use silicium or some thing like that which rots over time.
>>
>>3096631
>nigger they were made as late as '87
Where have I said that they weren't, slavfaggot? The FEDs are just more common and were produced in higher numbers through the years.
>>
>>3096725
No, no, you just described the kiev as a post-war contax copy, by that bit of info alone one might assume op's kiev is old, a vintage 50ies or at best early 60ies camera - which it absolutely isnt. And I find it very amusing, how they didn't change the old contax design at all over the decades they didnt even bother readjusting the speeds to modern standards.
>>3096721
Selenium. I know you want to be helpful but being stupid and too lazy to google a word you think is crucial to your piece of info is counterproductive.

Is the mount the same as the contax and nikon SP?

Do you happen to know the price of cameras and films back in the soviet days? Is it true the film didn't come with the cassete?

Same as the contax, not that that increases the range of available lenses greatly (very few models were made, relative to other systems: http://allphotolenses.com/lenses/systems/c_54.html ), not fully compatible with the nikons - https://www.cameraquest.com/NRF-Contax.htm - tl;dr wide angle lenses work, longer focals miss focus. Had to research this for my kiev, luckily for you.

>Do you happen to know the price of cameras and films back in the soviet days?
I can quote you some prices from my 50ies-70ies polish photography books, but idk how that was relative to earnings/other prices at the time, but:
> Is it true the film didn't come with the cassete?
This was to cut costs - east german orwo, polish foton and russian uh, sveta film casettes were reloadable, plastic or metal (the latter getting lightleaky as it got bent up) with unscrewable or unclippable top plates (all 6 casettes I reload are orwo or russian). You could buy:
-single 36 exp roll in a casette (most expensive per frame)
-36 exp cut strip wrapped in lighttight paper (to reload casettes yourself, obv cheaper)
-film cans with several cut up 36exp lengths of film
-film cans with a single long roll you had to cut yourself, which was cheapest.
With material shortages and a central planned economy, socialist states relied on the self-sufficiency of amateur photographers to bring the costs down to make stuff affordable - as today, you'd get photolabs or private advanced amateurs who'd reload spent casettes for newbies for a small fee, so it still paid off to buy film that didnt come with the casette, if you already had some.

Can you scan those polish photo books pls? Make a new thread and link it here.

> east german orwo, polish foton and russian uh, sveta film

Not unless someone pays me, dude. This is a full time job for a day or two. I got all these for 2-5zł (0.5-1€) on antiques/fleamarkets, used book stores have them by the cartload, too.

>Can you name all soviet era films?
I only know Cвeмa (Svema) and Tacмa (Tasma) brands, never looked further into the soviet/russian film industry, it's prolly a clusterfuck of rebrands, different plants making stuff for the same brandname and hard to track bs like that.

well you don't need to scan everything, but a pic or two of something interesting would be nice. Some pages with ads of the price of cameras and films.

Uh, there are no ads in the books. They're socialist poland photography guides, not commercial capitalist 80% ads 50ies Popular Science issues - the prices, if present, were quoted by the author and seldom so, since that stuff is prone to change and a book's contents shouldnt be dated like that. Which is ironic given today all of those books are, in their entirety.
As for interesting bits, again, nigga, I'd have to scan half of each book in, 's so full of old curio stuff. I wouldn't know what to choose ;_;

I'm not nor ever called myself a commie. I'll post some random scans later today, leaving for another antiques market crawl rn. I assume you speak polish? The kind of content I'll be choosing depends heavily on that. Tell me what kind of stuff you wanna see here, that'll help a bunch. Anyways, l8rs
