Going to buy this in a few months,
opinions? advice? recommendations?

A 5D MkII outperforms it.

Don't buy ancient gear unless this is your backup camera. Buy the current model.
>>3092820
Only in resolution terms. The 5D MkII AF system is absolutely lousy for a camera of its price.
>>3092805
No kidding man,
Save up and get the 1ds Mk III or the 1d MK IV you can get them for about 900 bucks on eBay. However don't get this camera and attach a fucking Canon silver ring lens because it will be fucking worthless. Only attach l glass to this camera.

You'd be better off saving your shekels for one of the more modern 1d bodies. Or at the price of a 1d3/1d4 you could get a D3 or D3s and blow any of those Canon bodies out of the water in image quality and AF.
>>3092840
>lousy
what are you shooting? It's not that bad for street and general travel
>>3092805
Yes, you can save up a little longer for something better, BUTT!!!
If you save up even longer you can get even better
and if you save up much longer you can get much better
honestly what's the point. Get any camera and have fun with it. It will come to you later as you go on practicing what it is you want/need.
You can buy any camera and just have fun with it. 85% of the picture quality comes from the photographer's skill, 10% from developing the picture(edit) and 5% from the camera.
Yeah a modern gear with spaceage lenses can take super sharp shiny pictures, but if you don't know how to work a composition it is just a matter of how much money you spent.
tldr: Good for you OP. Just enjoy!

save up the extra for the mark iii imo

>buying a dslr with a shittier sensor than a $100 pajeetphone
come on now
a 5D classic does what this does, in a smaller and lighter package. If you need good AF tracking for sports, get a different 1D or even a 7D.

GLASS BEFORE BODIES. GLASS makes more difference than the BODY in the overall picture. If you have the glass, then get a 5D MkII over this. You'll be wasting your money for extremely low performance.
The difference between this and 1Ds MkIII is tremendous. The difference between the MkII and a 5D MkII is also significant. I know because I owned all three. You will have much better overall performance from a 5D MkII relative to the price. THey should be pretty inexpensive now due to the new 5D4 being released. BH was overstocked on them due to trade ins for people upgrading to the 5D3.

>only get L glass
Don't listen to this guy. Canon made some out-fucking-standing lenses in the late 80s at the debut of the EOS system that will give any L lens a run for their money. The 28-70 f3.5-4.5 kit lens is absurdly sharp and does colors well. It's a decent walkaround too and I did some of my best work on pic related
>inb4 hurr sugar you suck kys
fuck off
the 70-210 f4 push pull wasnt bad either at f/8 I couldn't tell it from my 70-200 f4L IS
if you can swing L glass by all means do it, I loved mine but you don't need to pay the red ring tax for decent photos

I won't argue that it can be a good lens, but that is one bigass asterisk on that statement. The asterisk being the user needs to be quite versed in understanding how to take pictures then post process.
>>3093550
You shouldn't go around callling that "work". Jesus you've been taking pictures for like a decade now and still suck so badly.
>>3093550

Everything looks good at f8, dick skin.

But you do fucking suck, and you should definitely kill yourself.

I had a used II for a long time. Great camera.
But if you could hold out a little longer, get a III or IV for not much more (even a II-N).
I'm going to be taking some photos at night using a PVS-14 like in the picture. I don't have a dedicated camera other than what's built in to my phone, what would y'all recommend?

forgot the picture like an idiot
