Will it ever be a thing? Will old DSLRs ever become collectors items for reasons beyond novelty?

as soon as stuff stops being commonly used nostalgiafags will come out
keep an eye out for threads about CCD sensors like the Epson RD-1
No, there's no discernable difference to me. Pic related, 2006 on a D70s

>those M5 rims on a dirt track beater
Where is your god now?

The Epson RD-1 is a camera made by GOD himself. I almost bought one but the bids went too high.
I think it will become something later on. You'll just notice some difference when you are going to print it life size. posting on social medias will only show a minor lack of details.

That car is probably worth more than most new cars on the road.
The images will always cause nostalgia, but once you get your hands on the camera and try to get used to the """"workflow""""... well, you might as well consider film if all you wanted was muh colours.
yes I believe so. the shift back to film is already happening, but once the big brands release their new hi-definition film technology (think in the next 10-15 years) there will definitely be a quirky niche for people who still appreciate the digital era
I've been feeling this nostalgia for the D2x. i dont know why but it's a camera that just seems nice to have but I'd probably realize the quality from it is nothing amazing

I've got one. The third eye is sweet, and the camera is unearthly fast for something made in 2004. Skin tones are real nice. But, it's 12 MP, crop sensor, and ISO 400 is pushing it on this sensor, 800 being hard to edit and 1600/3200 are software enhanced as I understand. Perfectly serviceable a camera even today, suitable for filmfags and poorfags alike.
As the years go by and standards change there is the potential for vintage lenses of the future (think Canon EF system) to be a cheap alternative to what will then be current. And instead of trying to adapt them because you don't want to fool with film cameras like we do today, you just go on ebay and buy an old DSLR that they were designed for. Full frame mirrorless will probably still be expensive for the foreseeable future as well.

As I expected. I own a D200 which as I understand is like the D2x's little brother, right?
Is there anything significantly greater in the D2x in comparison to the D200?

D3s

This, I got one a few months ago and it's awesome. Used a D2Hs until last year, had a brief fling with a cheap D300 for a few months, but except for the increased resolution it felt like a downgrade and I was never really happy with it.
Now that I've got the D3s I'm completely satisfied and old Methusalah can retire to a cushy life of occasional novelty use. Prices are coming down far enough to make it a pretty good deal, too.
