Hi /p/
I recently did a few portraits for the first time.
I did not request any money since I felt like I didn't deserve it.
Going forward, I have no idea how to price my work. Can I get some suggestions from you anons?
Here are a couple of shots.
Thanks!

>harsh lighting (shadows suck)
>cluttered shots
>lamppost coming out of one goy's head (last shot)
>sky looks burned out
>drain going into other goy's head
>shit backgrounds too much clutter
Constructive criticism.
you forreal or trolling?
>>3081346
thanks for not answering any of my questions and reviewing the one picture
Just fuck off
>>3081352
you used a NIKON D7100... for this!?
kys
can't sell this shit
>>3081333
Underexposed and left side of the frame empty. Better place him right of that poster and take the poster on the left side of the frame.
>>3081334
Not a portrait, but the out of focus back of the guy.
>>3081335
Somewhat interesting, but to me, composition is a bit too centered.
>>3081336
Clearly too centered and not well framed. Pay attention to the background, that tube is growing out of his head.
>>3081343
Not a portrait, crooked shot of the backs of two guys in a more or less common setting.
OP you are clearly a pro already. I mean you bought a camera so what else do you need, right?! You should charge no less than $100 a picture you take. Your portrait style of capturing people's backs just blows me away.
Seriously fuck off and learn some basic composition before you even consider trying to charge people for this shit.
>>3081359
Thanks. I'll keep this in mind for my next shoot. We tried to do a lot of different things on that one day and this was all a new experience for me.
Do you have any input on how to price? I want to use this as a learning experience most of all, but if someone is willing to pay I won't turn it down.
>>3081374
As already stated by other posters in this thread, I recommend you keep shooting and improve your technique and composition/framing before charging money. Dissatisfied customers are not nice to have and question your reputation more than you might think. If you really want to charge for your shots, then do the maths: Overall time involved incl. post X your rate + travel expense (if applies) etc.
Nobody is going to pay you for just having a camera and taking photos with it.
>>3081333
When you shoot brown people I find it is helpful to use warmer softer light because you can end up with weird glare on skin. Put gels on windows, tape gel over flash and what not.
>>3081354
Then post some of your work. I'm sure it's miles ahead of where the OP is currently at in terms of skill since you type like a angry 14 year old girl.
As alway everyone was a cunt and didn't answer, We have similar styles and I charge 100-125 per session (10-15 pictures total), if the session requires more than an hour of travel up it to 175, and if its friends do it pro bono for a while to build a reputation. Good luck M8, good photos
>>3081764
You charge up to 125 whatevercurrency for shots like this?
>>3081769
oi mate. people want to pay him for his work. don't be such an ass, not everyone is as good or as high profile, people are trying to make a buck doing what they love
This thread is the exact reason you elitist assholes make people quit photography
>>3081774
Elitism is good. It's very important people know where they're at progress wise.
>>3081771
>>3081774
I'm totally ok with people paying him, it's their money. All I say is that if I paid for photos, I'd expect better results.
To me, considering both roles, the photographer, as well as being the customer, shots like this in the context of paid work are inacceptable.
How would you justify handing a customer a photo like the second, or last shot OP posted?
>>3081783
because the people paying aren't pros so they just accept any work desu
>>3081792
You're kidding me..
>>3081334
The only interesting shot
The rest aren't bad (technically) they're just eitther boring as shit or cliche as shit. The mirror shot isn't awful, but the crop is whack. Everything else is garbage.
>>3081764
Thanks man.
If this thread is still up when I finish editing I'll post more.
>>3081995
you're a 35mm crop film fag he has never produced a successful series of photos, why are you even post
>>3081997
I seriously don't get that hostility at this board. Was anything I wrote factually wrong, or inappropriate to you?
You're invited to visit me.. we're going to have some coffee/tea and talk.
However, the fact that some anonymous posting guy at a chinese stamp collector forum doesn't like me, or my photos, isn't going to keep me from posting.
>>3081333
I'll be blunt. It's shit. But there is potential. And the potential comes from understanding a bit more about framing, tones, setting, story, etc. COMPOSITION.
I did a quick touch up of a few that I thought had a little game. Hope you learn something from it. Fuck all these people who are going to tell you otherwise and shit on my contribution. You have to keep learning from your shit photos and how they size up to other photos and how other people look at it to keep going forward. So do just that. I'd suggest you take a simple entry level digital photography class just to help introduce you to more elements of photography in general.

Last one. My way is not the RIGHT way. There is no right way. This is just one of MANY ways to look at all the scenes you presented. There is always something in every scene but it's going to look different to everyone. You just need to get your fundamentals down solid and then develop your eye and taste and stick to it to express what you see.

I don't really see anything special here OP. If people wanna pay you then more power to you. Personally I live in a big city and I'd be bummed out if I paid $100 for a shoot of me like this. For that money I could find someone to do something really interesting, I hope.
>>3081335
what the fuck is up with his skin here, did you rub tigerbalm on his face before the shoot?
