>What does /p/ take when travelling?

I'm packing for a holiday and have changed bags - the ThinkTank Perspective Pro is rather brilliant if anyone was thinking about it - and so am doing a couple of trial packs. What does /p/ travel with? Light? Heavy? A lens for every occasion? A single prime? A pinhole obscura utilising a portable dog kennel?

A quick day trip? Just my camera with a standard zoom (udually 24-70 f4). Battery grip if I expect to shoot alot. Maybe a prime depending on location.

Long trip like over a week? My HPRC case full of shit. Pictured is what is usually in it, but it varies.

why do you have interchangeable lens systems if you need extra bodies anyways?

why not get a light meter instead?
>>
>>3073504
Well the 69 Fuji's aren't interchangeable lenses, are they?
And a camera with a load of HP5 and a 50/1.2 is a very different tool to a 28/2.8 and Retro 80S, even if they're the same camera.
And the real question is, why carry a light meter if I'm already carrying a camera with a meter?
I just had them all in a duffel bag around my shoulder with arca plates on; pulling out a ready to go camera is so much easier than fucking around with switching lenses, and an EM body weighs nothing anyway.

those Fuji 69s tho... Loved my 670iii, still looking for another one. So solid, so light, stupid sharp lens.

I just wrapped a four day trip to Northern Ireland.

I packed

2 Hasselblad 501c bodys with WLFs
1 80mm with hood
1 120mm with hood
1 50mm with hood
1 60mm no hood
3 A12 backs
25 rolls of 120 Portra 400
all of this went into a Domke shoulder bag except the film.

When actually shooting I would have the 120 and the 50 in thinktank pouches, plus 10 rolls in my jacket and my meter, the 80mm on the body, one back, plus another back in the car.

The second body with 60mm and back stayed at the hotel, along with the rest of the film. If something happened to my body, or if the kit was stolen, I could've completed the assignment with just the 60mm.

I talked so much shit on belt pouches until I did the Inauguration. Screw ever carrying a bag again.

Pic related, coastline below Dunluce Castle. Handheld, 400 iso, approx f/16 1/60 second for the slight blur in the water.

which he seems to be doing properly, v bodies can fuck up on you at the worst possible time and it is a good idea to have a backup. It is also nice to have more than one back either to have preloaded so you don't have to fuck around as much or to keep different film stocks at the ready. I keep one for B&W and one cor colour.

it was a solid 25 pounds I'm guessing. The bag went from the airport to the hotel room and then back into the uber to the airport five days later. It's just such a solid bag, and everything fits great. I also have a thinktank retrospective 10, which is also a killer bag, but is more flashy in my opinion. I've owned so many bags over the years, but the f2 is great, 5 years of throwing it around and its machine washable.

>>3074210
is this not an exact example of when modularity is helpful?I only bring the second as a backup. I'm also forever paranoid about light leaks or frame overlap so I leapfrog the backs, shooting a different one each day, so if one is problematic, I lose only one day's worth of images. Whenever I stop for food or something, I also take off the back and check for shit in the camera, that might be behind the mirror. A few years ago I shot a whole roll with a hair in the middle of the light trap and theres a giant line on every neg.

>>3074232
Nice. Is that a 300mm next to the 4x5? I think Linhof had a line of rebrands that were teles that allowed you to get a 300mm in focus at like 150mm of extension, handy for field cameras.

It was 400portra. I ended up shooting 24 rolls, and I got lucky through the whole thing with great clouds but no rain.

>>3074240
nice! I only shoot Portra 400, although I want to test some Portra 800 and pushing it to see if I like that. Never shoot any B+W any more. College killed that.

It's a 360mm f5.5 tele-xenar
not the sharpest lens in the world but the 4x5 neg is so big that 11x14 prints still look pretty good. It still maxes out my bellows at portrait ranges but it comes in handy.

Depends on where but usually I bring whatever I feel like regardless of practicality. I just stopped caring about carry a lot of weight or looking like a dumb ass in public.
I guess really I just take something depending on the quality of photo I want or size of negative really.
I switch between 400 fuji quicksnaps, an olympus om2spot (24mm,50mm,100mm) and a mamiya c330. Film depends on the setting. Throw all of them or just 2 or just 1 of them in a bag and go for it. Also bring an instax 210 around quite a bit if I'm with the gf.

Which is better for travel - Fuji 35mm f/2 or f/1.4?

f/2

The f/1.4 is slow as fuck to focus, stupid soft until stepped down 3 or 4 steps and all around a worse lens.

Dunno about your copy but my 1.4 is very sharp at f/2 and reasonably so wide open. Won't argue about the focus though - it's night and day better from when I got it with the X Pro 1 and original firmware, but it's still slow and noisy

Anybody got any travel tripod recommendations?

Sirui T-025x, probably the most high quality compact tripod you're going to find

Have you used good twist locks before? If you have and you still prefer snap locks then you're crazy m8

More everyday carry than a travel setup, but the two are one and the same.

3 batteries in the lil black pouch, two different lengths of sling strap that I can join together to turn into a two-lug neck strap, Meike MK320 or whatever its called flash unit, little Olympus voice recorder that I have no real use for but carry around anyway on the off chance I need to say something into it, red electrical tape for use as a gel alongside typical reasons for carrying a roll of tape, polarizer, and various personal items.

Sometimes I use the x100 with a leather half-case instead for aesthetics.

The wooden ball joint serves a few purposes;
-vertical grip of sorts for shooting portrait orientation with the flash attached, I rest it in the crotch of my thumb
-handgrip for resting the palm while using the focus tab, similar in purpose to the ball grips Voigtlander used to make
-pivot point for smooth movement in handheld shots with light trails. For this use I simply cup the ball loosely in my hand like a ball joint. Less prone to shakey light trails this way.

There no fucking way that tripod weighs 7.9 lbs - get real. Read a book? How about get out and use some gear, faggot.

Nice try.

The knife reminds me of slash-proof bags. Has anyone here had a bag slashed before? I hear it's a problem in Italy but I've never heard of it happening where I live.
>>
>>3082983
I've seen it in the past in Madrid especially in crowded train and underground stations but it's been quite long since.
>>
>>3082983
Move it to your front in particularly dodgy areas.

is the peak design worth it, if it's just a wrist strap? they're pretty expensive

It was nice - I didn't like the removable design and I only used it for a short period of time until I replaced it with a Hardgraft leather strap.

I travel to pretty sketchy places, so a secure wrist strap is important to me... plus the leather is A E S T H E T I C.

I just sold a Canonet QL17 for 3 times the price I bought for it. It's a shitty little rangefinder and I have no idea why people go ape over it.
>>
Which x100 series camera should I get? Is there a big difference between the s and the t? Looking to get a camera for travel.
>>
>>3083027
Fast lens and small, I guess. It feels like the consumer camera it is.

Domke somehow went from amazing products to one shit run of bags when they did the 2015 history series with all the WHPA stuff. I have a backpack from then and it's literally the complete opposite of every other Domke bag ever.
>>
>>3083537
This one feels like any other f-x5b, the patch itself is pretty shittily made though. One of the stars is most of the way unraveled. Can probably hand stitch a replacement one day.

I've no love for larger bags.
>>
>>3083157
As you move up, the electronics get better.

The sensor on the F is a new sensor tho - more pickles. The F also has an insanely fast boot up time, which is beneficial for turning it off/on to conserve battery.

Would recommend this, coming from a T user.
>>
>>3083540
Yeah I've had an S, have a T, and am loosely considering an F for consistency of files with my XP2; also love Acros too much to not to miss it when I travel X100 only
>>
>>3083586
I don't often use sims, but I usually only use Classic Chrome, if I do.
>>
>>3083539
Weird, looking at pics now, a lot of different products got the WHPA logo stamp. The backpack I got was a giveaway which why it probably sucks.
>>
>>3083170
It's not that THAT small, it weighs more than my XT-10, and the meter is laughable. Got my monies doe, so fuck it.
>>
X70 a good buy?
>>
>>3084241
Last of the 16MP sensors; good form factor; good image quality output; no viewfinder which is a dealbreaker for me, but the 28mm-equiv lens is a good travel cam.
>>
>D7000 body.

There are a few things to note.

Original X100 does not have an x-trans sensor. Some die-hards still swear by it and there's a pretty strong market for the original.

X100t is where 'modern' features like WiFi transfer start to creep in. If you can afford the like $100 extra for the t over the s it's well worth doing for quality of life.

Basically don't buy an S unless you really really can't afford a T.
>>
>>3085598
Yeah thanks. I think I'll get that. I just want a rugged adjustable fixed lens camera that takes good pictures.
>>
Been looking at the Lowepro ProTactic 450AW

Mate of mine has one - tough, nicely made, good materials, the zip feels good... though that applies to most Lowepro bags and most decent brands in general I suppose. He likes his; that said, bags are such a personal thing - best thing I've found is to find a store that'll let you stack your shit in one to see how it fits your gear

I use 3 different inserts depending on what I'm doing, but this.

Large case is for camping gear, for the most part.

I just dropped my first roll off to get developed today.

I really hope I hate it. I don't wanna fall in love with a film that runs $20 a roll.
