I typed this up earlier, but you deleted the thread.
The sharpest part of that photo is somewhere around her skirt and the bench. A good portrait should be sharp around the subject's eyes and facial features. That's where we read all the most important information about another person.
That angle of view is okay for a portrait, but I'd prefer to get closer - waist-up or shoulders-up.
Her pose is expressive - it shows her nervousness - but her expression is blank. The photo doesn't engage with her well and I can't get an idea of her personality.
Keep practicing.

read up on using focus confirmation on the D7000 with manual focus. you can set a focus point and then the camera will let you know via some indicator (usually a green dot on Nikon) that your selected point is in focus.

Even if you are using a large aperture and blurring the background, pay attention to everything in your photos and use it to frame, compliment, lead the eye to the model if you can.
Also, I can't tell if you are cropping this way, or if this is sooc, but you are always cutting it really close to the feet on these full body shots. I get the feeling you are ignoring the edges of the frame.
You probably shouldn't be using anywhere near so high a shutter speed in this situation- the high iso is making your shots pretty grungy. If she's just sitting there, why are you going above 1/200?
Practice focusing. You can zoom in in live view to check focus if you aren't confident with the viewfinder.
Go /p/ro:
• Please post images that are JPG format, smaller than 1 MB, and/or about 1000 pixels on the longest side.
• Expect to be judged harshly. Learn to deal with it.
Use a leer ISO. You should be able todo shoot with a 1/200 speed or even less depending on your focal length. Use rule of thumbs.
Also most of the pictures are out of Focus ir with the focus missing. For a portrait you should hace the eyes un focus
>>3072037
Hey dude, most of them are OOF snapshits, but since I am not super anal about focus I could get past that.
What I like in your photos:
-trying to shoot film
What i don't like:
-uninteresting low contrast light
-model is stiff and unnatural, if you shoot amateurs don't make them pose coz it will look terrible, try to shoot them when they do sth they normally do instead for much better results
Light tips: when scouting for location I always think about the light first. Shapes and colours in the background second. Even though you shoot film I'd still play some with curves with the scans to get a better picture.
>>3072223
Just noticed you don't shoot film, you only said you use manual focus lens, so scratch off the "what I like" off the list.
>>3072158

I can't say I approve son. Start from the beginning and learn how to use your camera or just give up on photography.
I can't critique it as a portrait because looks more like snaps... Watch some 'how to portrait' lessons on youtube.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to suggest never ever cut the feet off ever, just that it didn't look at all intentional. the reason people on this board will call these snapshits is that is is obvious that you are not aware of everything that is going into the image.all that shit has to be considered... it is all contributing to the whole composition - color, light, expression, gesture framing, focus, geometry in some cases, the presence of distracting elements - bright spots, colors. if you were painting a portrait, and you didn't want some shit in the background, you wouldn't paint it there, you could take that same attitude to your photos

Aside from what the thread has already answered regarding your 'question', I think you're doing fine with your limited available equipment and knowledge of photography.
This is photography of your girl. What you are taking is the way you perceive her beauty or essence. Nobody can really tell you how to do that more right or what is 'wrong'.
Aside from the technical misses once in a while like focus being off, I don't see anything else wrong with this and you should just keep shooting pictures of her to gain more confidence.

If I were choosing, it'd be a mix between these photos. The first one has the most direct engagement with the camera, but the second one has a better angle. I would step back a bit when framing the second one so her knee is in the picture and make sure her camera is aimed at your camera. Otherwise, technically, they're fine, and they fulfill what you were trying to do in taking them. In that respect they're your best pictures in the thread.

I suggested paying attention to details of the whole composition and framing. Others mentioned light. Those are answers, no?
What do you want to hear? "You're doing great", "Love your pics", "she's so cute"?
I don't know, don't want to discourage you.. think you should go back and try to do even better next time with some of the advice in mind.
>>3073456
nice!
Work on keeping your background clean, get some better comp. Learn to crop.
Better post processing for better color.
>>3073470
All I did was VSCO Kodak gold 400 preset in Lightroom, slightly cropped it to get her more in the center, lower the fade manually on curves, lower the highlights, fix some spots on her face with spot tool, lower the grain a bit. Then in Photoshop I removed some reds from her face by applying "good" colour from her face to red spots with 10% flow and adjusted opacity. Last thing I applied some contrast only to her eyes with curves. Should I want to spend some more time I would also dodge and burn her face a bit to add some exposition to it without loosing the shadows that I like.
I hate post production so I try to keep it as short and simple as I can (max 5 minutes per picture If I don't use liquify)
