Hey there, noob here and was hoping somebody could help me out with picking up a new lens. I have a canon T6I and tend to go out a lot at night to do some urban photography. I'm using the 18-55mm kit lens and was told to go maybe with a 40mm or 50 prime lens. I definitely feel like I need to get me a prime lens but what else would you suggest for a beginner. I have a pretty good budget(1000$).Thanks! Also thoughts on the t6i?

So far I do a lot of urban photography so I go around the city and take pictures! Often during night time. I'll post a few examples and would love some feedback.

Honestly, sell the T6i and get a Fuji x100f.
You'll get a better sensor, lightweight body that is good for shooting in the city, and focal length great for urban shots. There are also adapters to give you wider or more telephoto shots.

yes. get the cheapo nifty fifty and go from there
Get the Yongnuo 35mm f/2
It's a lot more usefull on an APS-C camera than the Canon 50mm f/1.8

Here's a thought op, try shooting with your kit lens set on only the focal lenght of the prime you are buying. 50mm is pretty narrow for street scenes on crop. I'd say get the 24/2.8 stm, it has image stabilization which helps at low light. Or since you have the money, get them both.

50 - 85 mm prime would do fine as a portrait lens on crop. Read some reviews and decide which one suits your budget the best. For example the 70 mm sigma macro could work both as a portrait and macro lens. There is a lot to choose frome.
That said, use the gear thread for gear related questions.

About that Yongnuo advice above I would rather go for the EF-S 24mm pancake instead.
