What kind of alternatives are there? I would love something that would offer better grip, that's not big and doesn't draw attention to me. I just think it looks goofy when people run around with huge rigs for home videos.

I wish Movi wasn't so expensive. Any cheap alternatives for a poorfag?

You can grab a steady cam for about £45. They're a bit annoying to use, but the footage is amazing for the cost.

I think I'd much rather buy a Sony A7s II, than a Movi. That way I could get decent image stabilization for vintage lenses and a Canon EF to Sony E adapter with variable ND.

I've been thinking about it, but it's not as discreet as I'd like. They're usually pretty big. Do you know of any monopod that works nice for video? Maybe one that I could use for support when it's not extended as well.

Check out the zhiyUn crane. It's like $600, so it's not dirt cheap, but it looks pretty good. It's what I would buy if I had some extra money laying around

A steadycam is the most efficient way of stabilising your video.
The shitty £50 ones are not worth the time imo, the gimbals are not calibrated and the oil is usually too thick, which limits the way you can use them so much you might as well not bother.
If you don't want to dish out on a glidecam, from personal experience, the Laing P04S is amazing. Better than a standard glidecam HD series and costs £190.
Does it draw attention? No more than a shoulder rig does.

I don't think that will hold a 5d3, maybe with the 40mm pancake
>>3059268
Swap it in for an a7sii, ibis and all the cages, gimbles and steadicams a boy could want.
And it wrecks the canon for video.

lol, just get a sony.

Yeah, you're right. Going to miss the raw video, though. The Sony A7s III would be perfect for my use, but the reason why I'm holding off is there will probably be a Sony A7s III over the next year. If that comes with more codecs, higher frame rate, higher resolution, better stabilization and an internal ND, I'm going to be kicking myself.
The Sony A9 has just been announced, which means that a Sony A7s III may be announced as early as 6 months from now. However, there's a chance that Sony will replace the A7s and A7r with a single model.

Hmm. Maybe with a RetroFlex rig. I have held off buying one of those because I've always had the feeling that a new model is around the corner. With all the shortcomings of that camera, it just seems like it would be worth waiting.

Well, yeah. But they're two different cameras. I've wanted both. I agree, though.
