Howdy /p/, I came across a few areas in Baltimore's inner harbor that I would like to come back to and wait to photograph the right moment.
In context of using a cropped sensor DSLR and a 50mm prime (80mm effectively), What could be done to improve the framing, or better the shots compositions?
What are the problems with the current framing or composition, and what could be done to improve them?
Are there any aspects of these photos you like and would recommend keeping in future endeavors?
p.s. I know my highlights are blown, and i'm shit etc. etc.
Constructive criticism would be GREATLY appreciated anons!

There's nothing on the right to balance the ship on the left. Maybe sun/interesting sky would work.
>>3058914
The walkway is leading up to.. nothing. Something has to act as a focal point at the end of the walkway.
>>3058917
Maybe move a bit to the left so that the building is over top of the row of boats. A longer focal length might help.
>>3058919
The bench on the bottom is cut halfway from frame. It's better to either have it in frame or not have it at all.
It's my take anyway.
That's it for now. I wonder if there'll be replies when I wake up? Feel free to post your own photos you'd like critiqued

ISO set to 100, was to check if adobe stock was just fucking with me when they rejected ISO 400 images for too much noise.
Manual is just because I'm still a learning student.
As for not stopping up and getting a manageable shutter speed I'm just retarded and dead set on consistent apertures. Like aperture priority, only with added effort.

Good advice with the interesting sky. Thanks anon. Thanks for the other feedback, I'll try it out next weekend.

I should add a better follow up, I don't mean to be a dick for no reason.
1. Don't shoot with the widest possible aperture just for the sake of it in broad daylight. If you want to isolate a subject that's one thing, but you'll be much better off just leaving your camera in aperture priority and shooting f8 in daylight to encourage better balance in your compositions before you start leaning on bokeh as a crutch.
2. 50mm on a crop sensor is really, really hard to get used to. It'll be much better suited to portraits, and occasionally shooting other subjects really tightly. As a walkaround lens, you're going to struggle to fit city scenes into that focal length. If you have a kit lens you might want to shoot with it for a while, or look into a 35mm prime if you aren't going to shoot people very often.
3. You're on the right track with these, as most of them show that you're on the look out for pleasant lines/geometry. Keep hunting that, but like I said 50mm on a crop body will make it tough. You're cutting off a lot of the objects in these photos (especially stuff like the ship's masts in the OP) which means that without clear subjects to focus on, they just look incomplete.
Keep at it.

Honestly, I shoot people primarily, but I just don't feel right posting my people photos of friends without permission on 4chan of all places.
It would make sense to switch from a 50mm to a 35mm when I try for shots like these. Thank you.
Is there a specific reason for f/8? My reasoning for f/11 wasn't arbitrary but that it's apparently the highest stop down you can get for maximum depth of field on a cropped sensor before getting light diffraction.
I don't have my own camera yet. The D3200 is one provided to us as photo students and we have access to 1.4f/ 50mm and 1.8f/35mm primes from the equipment cage.
My first camera I intend to buy at the end of the week is an EOS 1300D/Rebel T6 and my first lenses being the 50mm STM 1.8/f and 24mm 2.8/f pancake. Budget is a moderate concern and I can't afford the same lenses I'm able to rent just yet.
Thank you for the helpful feedback anon!
