Why would anyone take pictures in rain?
>>3057598
Not OP, but maybe I like to go hiking and camping and run into unexpected weather.
>>3057604
Point is: photographs looks like crap in heavy rain so no point of taking your camera out of your bag until it has stopped raining.

DIY up some covers if you're too poor to buy some
and then worry about whether they're working or not once it starts to pelt down

>>3057544 Cameras are not made of sugar. Everything I've ever used (various consumer film and digital cameras) could take rain, wet snow and mist without problem. Unless you plan to pursuit photography while kayaking or hurricane chasing don't worry. If you do get a tough compact as second.

why would you go to all that trouble to take a close-up photo of that boring rail while there are all these exciting cars racing just on the other side of the fence
>>3058022
Good thing it isn't a one-lap race.

Yeah, but to what extent? Are you in the rain or snow for just a minute or two, or the entire day?. I own the 5DII, III and IV, and the weathersealing has improved with each model. not just based on the manufacturer's documentation, but my own testing, too. I've had the 5DII and III completely go haywire on me while shooting in the rain, the 5DIII obviously holding out longer than the II. So far so good with the IV, though. And I've shot outside in the pouring rain with my 7DII for several hours and didn't have a problem. There's no way a Rebel could've withstood those conditions.
Yes, all cameras can withstand a certain amount of precipitation, but not necessarily a day out in the rain.
Also, DIY rain covers are really more hassle than they're worth. Buy a rain cover designed for your camera - even the inexpensive ones will work for most situations. Or just buy a Pentax.
