Are you stupid or just retarded? How they fuck are you going to have enough time to set up your tripod and camera if you just happened upon a train coming down the tracks? Even if you did wait four hours for a train to show up, that's still not "right place at the right time" because you're there for a specific purpose.
>>3056520
literally half of the retarded posts on /p/ would not exist if everyone read the sticky
>>3058077
>how the duck are you going to have enough time
Because not every moving train is barreling down the tracks with the throttle shoved all the way forward, silly. There are speed restrictions and such.
>>3058230
The funny thing is that one was and so was the other. Track speed is 60mph in this area.
What was perfectly timed was firing the flash array and the location was perfectly selected because minimal light pollution, interference from other vehicles (both were done after midnight) as well as interference from law enforcement, they do their shift change at about the time I did these.
The flash array was 3x Canon 550ex and one Metz CT45 all 4 at full power I'm standing quite a bit away from the locomotives and need the horsepower to throw the light that kind of distance.
For what it's worth, the whole thing sets up in less than two minutes and that location has a straight line of sight for 7 or 8 miles so theoretically if I were to cross the tracks and see the headlight I could set it up in enough time to get the shot.
Not all of them were like that, sometimes I did happen to just get lucky. The ironic thing about this one is I happened upon an engineer swap while coming home from a friends house and I haven't been able to replicate this shot since 2011 when I did it.

Bretty nice. I'll have to try to work with flash/night shots some more. I've done OK at night but it's usually when the train has stopped or was moving very slow. The Florida S line seems rather busy at night so I should be good.
Have you had many issues with the cops photographing trains? I've only been approached a few times over the 5 years I started trainspotting, and was never once told I couldn't photograph trains. They just asked what I was up to is all.

Very interesting. Not a fan of street shots that just show street signs and people walking about with not much thought to it, but you definitely made it interesting with the motion blur on the vehicles.
My favorite part is the older guy with the kid on his back standing almost in the middle of it all. Good shit man, this is motivating stuff.

>My favorite part is the older guy with the kid on his back standing almost in the middle of it all
Yeah, that's the whole point of the photo, i'm glad you caught it. To be honest I was just resting against a railing, trying to take some slow speed shots of the moving traffic. It was only after I started that I realized the old man was there, and it made it just perfect. I quickly recomposed and shot a couple more before he started moving.
Thanks man. I'm at a really low point with my photography and I haven't really picked up my camera in like 3 years, so even though these are old shots and I might have lost it and never do stuff like this again, it's great to hear it motivates someone. Cheers and keep shooting.

I don't think you've lost it. Sometimes we just go through those periods of not feeling motivated or inspired to shoot, for one reason or another. I've seen quite a few people mention that on here, and I've dealt with it myself; for 2-3 years I would rarely shoot, and any time that I did shoot, I hated whatever I produced.
Maybe you need a change of scenery or maybe even a new camera. Sometimes more camera capabilities and features can get you interested in experimenting with new concepts. I think in time you'll come around and the motivation to shoot will come back to you, just gotta find it or it has to find you.
Would love to see more of your old shots.
>>3058286
A few times usually they just wanna know what you're doing. For a week straight I would go out about midnight until I managed to get the first shot I posted (and learned when the local PD does their shift change), and about every night the police would get called on me from some uppity New Yorker or Jersey douche who had probably recently moved down and after about the 3rd night they would just roll by and make sure I was okay. Sometimes late at night they would stop by and shoot the shit I imagine cops get bored too at 2am, Grant FL isn't exactly as bad as Detroit.
