No, they're really not. Their finger slipped and went full minimalist and now it just looks real fucking weird. I can't imagine that focus ring being comfortable.

Medical studies say that smooth surfaces upset kids with severe autism, apparently the lack of details is the problem. This is why gamer mouses and other gaming manufacturers come out with a design containing sharp edges and many unnecessary details, no matter how unpleasant aesthetically the end product is. They just cater to their main demographic.
Zeiss is a renowned optical manufacturer with good quality optics and they have a design that reflects the cutting edge technology with aesthetics.
The lenses look good, it is the body where the unpleasant aesthetics are. Definitely doesn't look the part.

The Zeiss cinema lenses are the only ones in Germany, but all the other Zeiss lenses are made by Zeiss in their manufacturing plant in Japan and all the Sony/ZEISS lenses are manufactured by Sony in their plant in China. Sony develops, test and manufacture their lenses.

Why put it all the way in the back? Fuck off with that shit.

you tard do realize the rubber ring started with the compact zooms and touit lenses right? other than missing a programmable FN button the modern zeiss lens design is very ergonomic. nothing wrong with the looks either, it's just that most people are used to clunky mechanical designs.

>>implying the company that makes all the important parts for every camera except canon can't fab their own lenses.

Lens making is specialists work.

Sony is an electronics company.
Not an optics company.

Maybe Sony makes cheap lenses for low end consumer P&S's.
But for the high end stuff they contract specialists.

Don't know why you are so butthurt.
Samyang is an excellent lens maker.
>>
>>3055313
>Don't know why you are so butthurt.
>Samyang is an excellent lens maker.

They might be OK at grinding glass, but that doesn't change the fact they don't make lenses for Sony.

Here's an article about Sony poaching Nikon's head lens designer and building their own molds for aspherics.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2016/02/04/sony-raises-the-bar-we-talk-with-sonys-top-lens-designer-about-what-makes-t

Why are you so butthurt at the idea of Sony making their own lenses? How many other normal primes can you see on the market with concave front elements? If Samyang made them, why are they giving all their best glass to Sony, nothing from them touches what Sony have been producing recently?
>>
>>3055313
The other guy is correct. Sony is making this stuff in-house.

They are able to control the design of the sensor, and they are able to control the design of lenses, and they are able to control the design of camera electronics, they even invent new storage media as well.

That's an advantage they have as a giant corporation.
>>
>>3055317

>>
>>3055242
I don't like them much either. I don't like the look of Otus and Milvus either for that matter.

But the feeling of the "soft" metal surface is superb, I love the way they feel on the hand, which is the most important.
>>
>>3054623
The focus ring is some sort of silicone or rubber, so it's not exactly slippery.
I can totally see why some bring up coffee mugs though.
>>
>>3054845
thats the scale not the focus ring at the back you blind retard
>>
>>3054296
they look overly smooth, jesus christ. add some grooves to the focus ring to make it look much better
>>
>>3055726
That's how the FE 55mm looks like.

The smooth metal is super comfortable to hold, I actually prefer that over the grainy textured metal surfaces.
>>
>>3055734
I prefer the soft neoprene cover on my Sigma 50mm.
