Typically when I'm at a nightclub I don't like some shitty photographer flashing his flash in my face while I'm trying to get laid.

Something like that will take the edge off the flash. Use a long exposure with the flash to get the streaky lights etc. Also, try to find a focal length you can hit each time so you can pre focus, auto focus searching is going to be a bitch and will probably lose you a few good shots.

Switch it to manual and set the flash with a few preliminary shots then stick to that. Remember the flash settings and switch on the strobe mode and set two strobes with half the settings or 4 strobes with 1/4th the settings over the exposure duration (preferably 1/30s or slower shutter speed to get funky multiple exposure shots. You can also experiment with front or rear curtain sync as well with a longer shutter speed to have funky long exposure with a frozen moment in the movement.
