I might want to get into film photography, is this damn thing alright for a first film camera? I'm just asking because it's really fucking cheap like $15 to $50 for the FED 3's to FED 5's. Should I even try to be aiming for this budget? I really don't want to spend more.

If you look around you can get a cheap Nikon SLR or Pentax or Canon for 50, the FED is a junk camera past the FED2 and even those are typical Soviet build quality. If it drops you're fucked and I can count on one hand how many people on Planet Earth are any good at repairing them and most of those people live in former Soviet Bloc countries.

FEDs are good learners but there's better cameras out there for 50 bucks. I've seen FMs and K1000's under the 50 dollar mark just have to look around. Nikon FG is a good starter it's what I learned on. I had an FM years ago that I paid a whole 50 dollars for everything including 3 lenses film accessories, bag with press credentials and cleaning kit. You have to be diligent on Craigslist or eBay to find them but you can.

Any orphan system like Canon FD or Minolta MD is going to be super cheap and Minolta glass from the 70s and 80s back when Leica had their hands in their back pockets is legendary.

Don't fall for the soviet camera meme, they're way overpriced if you are buying them on ebay. You can get these kind of cameras for next to nothing in the excomblock nations.

If you are really interested it all depends on your budget. I would recommend a Nikon F3 (Best camera I have ever owned) Canon A1, if your budget is low you should get a Nikon FM or a Canon AE1. However the Canons you would have to locate a place in your town where they fix them, they tend to break down a Lot. If you want to avoid that, get a Nikon F3. That camera has lasted for the past 20 years and I bought it used. Also, learn how to just develop the film and then buy a Wolverine digitalizer or scan the pictures.

Tl;dr Step it up m80 and invest good money in a good camera.

Just buy a canon LTM is you want a rangefinder or literally any film eos or f mount body

There is a reason why these things are cheap and it's because of the fact that they are junk. If you want to learn on one it's not even worth it seeing as it's so unforgiving and unreliable. Please take the advice of getting an FD system if you want cheapness.
