Hello everyone. I love the /vid/ threads just as much as the next guy but I don't see too many threads posting videos that inspire you.

Perhaps it is the ascetic, the message, the technicality. Post what you like, the videos you watch over and over again. Often times we get far too caught up in talk of dynamic range or bit rate when we should be talking about content, after all, content is what really matters in the end. Your movie could look like shit and be amazing and vice versa.

So post some inspiration! Movie clips, music videos, adds for a new car! Whatever you want guys.

And as always, have a nice day and remember to set aside some time for yourself to work every day. <3

-pic unrelated, just some overexposed film shot I took.

Ill start:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg4z8zpAC3s

- Have yet to see the film, "The Smell of Us", but this music video was something I watched a lot when I moved to NYC last august. It was a strange time in my life, about 1000 degrees, and this video captured how I felt in some wierd way. Now I have this sort of nostalgic feel for the video and its look that I relate to the days I spent walking the Manhattan streets alone sweating my brain out.

Love this guys stuff:

(that shot at 1:07 especially)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyq8_o6LuwU

Man what a GH3 can do, just goes to show its the man behind the camera.

Unfortunately as I learn more about color grading I like this video less and less (mostly because they just saturated the fuck out of it)
but I still find it interesting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9XKLqGqwLA

Has to be one of my favorite scenes in any film ever, I love this film so much. My favorite part of this movie is the color pallet used, the set designer is amazing and if I ever am lucky enough to do anything noteworthy she is top on my list.

those gh3 videos are brilliant, now I just have to find out how to get my old ass gh2 to even resemble that kind of quality

Just a little something I recorded.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAccccckS!

Also consider the upgrade. I know it can be a lot but a gh4 body can go for aaround $800 now which isnt too crazy.

>>3051092
Haha, that's pretty cool. Did you use one of those things you put over your lenses? What are they called>
>>
>>3051069
Remember, Upstream Color was shot on a GH2, albeit with good glass but you can rent a Zeiss lens for $30 a day.
>>
>>3051149
>albeit with good glass
Dude, just because the Voigtlanders are f/0.95, you can't assume they're good glass.

They're decent but that's not the reason the movie was good/decent.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Zz1aZSpXo
Anyway, here's a turd I shot unprompted. First bit is handheld and looks rough but I like the last section. I should go out and shoot next time we have fog and I could make that first section more interesting.
>>
>>3051156
Bruv Voigtlanders are really good glass. Sure they are not Zeiss and are more accessible to the public but it is definitely good glass. I agree that is not the reason the movie was good but don't doubt good glass.

And man I like that turd! You got pretty good dynamic range in there and the music brought out a sense of dread to the thing, was fun to watch. Where did you find the music?

George Lucas being tossed aside by the mob is one of the great demonstrations of human ignorance.
>>
>>3051156
This is bretty nice but start is a bit rough. Colors are really pretty.

>>3051092
Its interesting but doesn't hold my attention for more then 20 seconds.

I know it isn't gear thread but people who make films know better. What do you think of this tripod that I'm gonna buy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEx7V8_mOeY&t=384s

Its max height is 155cm. Am I gonna have trouble with? Its shorter so I can't get a perfect shot of someones face in front of it and I would probably need something to put under it to be bigger.
>>
>>3051481
What movie is that?
>>
>>3051594
It's one of George Lucas' student films.

If you mean the movie being shot that he is filming, it's called McKenna's Gold.
>>
>>3051481
To be fair he is the only one to blame about his own downfall. He had the world in the palm of his hand and he threw it away to make money.
>>
>>3051601
>and he threw it away to make money.
You know absolutely nothing about the man. You are what i'm talking about.
It was never about money.
>>
>>3051603
>wat

Dude was all about brand. Its very common knowledge. Sorry you are such a lucas fanboy that you cant see the truth right in front of you.

>"Merchandising alone will help erase that debt, and the power of auxiliary avenues of profit is well known to Lucas, with Kurtz claiming that the end of ‘Empire’ was changed for the sake of the toys.

“We had an outline and George changed everything in it,” he said. “Instead of bittersweet and poignant, he wanted a euphoric ending with everybody happy. The original idea was that they would recover [the kidnapped] Han Solo in the early part of the story and that he would then die in the middle part of the film in a raid on an Imperial base. George then decided he didn’t want any of the principals killed. By that time, there were really big toy sales and that was a reason.”

>>
>>3051603
And how can you say that after he gave up making decent films to focus on remastering and re releasing and making action figures and merchandise for 20+ years? Then selling star wars after saying he wouldn't? Then making that shitty af red tales movie that proved how out of touch he is?

I respect the man for what he did with star wars and I think that American Graffiti was aight but he has spent the majority of his life milking his franchise.

How bout that Christmas special or all three of the prequels?

Even his most admitted fans got over him, id stop lapping up his balls for one second and try to have a hint of objectivity, Lucas was and is a sellout.

You do realise Richard Brody is the one who called for an end to the star wars saga after Rouge One? Have you ever read anything else by him, or looked at his top movie choices of the year, the guy is the embodiment of the contrarian movement.

>star wars, that's bullishit!
>Oh people hate star wars now, its brilliant

Look, I am not contesting that Lucas had, and displayed, serious talent in the original trilogy. though that said he had much less of a hand then he wan'ts the world to think, though he had talent. Lucas went to shit very very fast after Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi was pretty bad in some parts.

Lucas is not some genius, you need only to turn to the writing to realize that. If you wen't through a plinket phase im sure you are aware of that at least. And his prowess in cinematography is seemingly gone as well, look at Red Tails or Crystal Skull that he had a big hand it.

Dood is gone. You are drinking the hipster nostalgia Kool-Aid freindo.
>>
>>3051773
Genius burns out senpai. For some it lasts a little longer but in the Case of Lucas it was a flash that was huffed out by money. He made some great things, but like his blood brother Coppola his talent is not in this world anymore.
>>
>>3051783
You've said nothing that I didn't know and have researched extensively- and have found to be untrue.
You're spouting entry level lies just shy of "Marcia was why SW was good".
>>

>but in the Case of Lucas it was a flash that was huffed out by money.
nope
You don't even bother to get to the bottom of an issue before you defame the man.

Stupidest sentence i've seen this week.

The music is the notturno from L'avventura.

I feel kind of lazy for having used it. It's the music that carries it. Try watching it muted.

>>3051807
I don't think Lucas was a genius ever.

Walter Murch is a genius and his editing and sound design are the only reasons to watch THX-1138.

Star Wars is a mess of a franchise and the first movie was saved in editing from Lucas's "vision" and the end result isn't even that good. It has serious pacing and character issues.

Lucas has had a few decent ideas that only really work because they were mediated by other artistic visions. He got lucky on a merchandising deal and made 5 billion dollars.

Lucas was very inventive with editing and sound design.
Just watch this video.
>>3051481
You see powerful sequential editing, you see editing focusing on time, with speed ups and sudden stops that tell a story, and you hear sounds that work to heighten the point of the piece, from the animals, to the ugly hum of man made electricity, to the crack of the lightning.

As far as editing goes, don't take my word for it.
You know who John Milius is, I assume?

Not that guy, but why do people do this. That is an appealing shot with nice framing and stark contrast.

Why do people do this thing where they decide on their opinion and then just try to win the internet fight instead of telling the truth?

If you or I took that picture, I would be very impressed.

Just because you are trying to push a narrative doesn't mean you can't give credit where credit is due.

And I know that you're not listening to me and you're just going to insist that you actually think that shot isn't good.

I don't know why I still talk to people. Who knows what you are like in person. I don't know you. I wish you could see things the way I see them.
