bought a camera waiting for it to arrive for the sole purpose of shooting the southern lights. so any tips n stuff would be awesome.

Not op, but there's a ton of great tutorials for that kind of shooting on youtube. I'd also keep checking the exif info on photo's posted on here.

The way I look at shooting night photos is capturing a subject with stars in the background. As far as north and south lights. Your camera can capture way more than your eye can see and the littlest northern or southern lights and make a photo beautiful. If you would like settings click on the exif info. Good luck. Feel free to ask more questions. These photos took very little skill to perfect
