/p/ /fa/ thread.
What sort of shit do you wear when you're going out to take photos? Do you have a special photography vest covered in pockets to store shit in, like a walking stereotype? Do you dress a particular way, or just dress like you usually do?
Post your photography outfit(s) AND the sort of photos you take. I would imagine that a landscape photographer who gets the shot only after hiking all day has a very different experience from a street photographer who needs to blend into a crowd.
nobody is going to have a uniform that they wear every time they go out.
personally what i wear depends on whether i want to blend in with people in the area. sometimes i dress up a little more formally, so that im believable as a "photographer" as opposed to just a pervert creeping around with a camera.
>>3046109
Photographers hate being noticed, so naturally they'd try to look the least like a tourist as possible. If they're in a city, they're going to try to blend if the crowd, if they're hiking they're going to dress like any other hiker (why wouldn't they). A landscape photographer isn't going to look like some suburbanite faggot walking in the woods with a T-shirt, sneakers and jeans, unless they seriously couldn't care less what other people think of them.
>>3046112
What do you mean by "more formal" clothes?
>>3046116
this strategy is based on advice i was given by a well-known photographer who has been getting great results working with strangers in intimate settings (e.g. gay cruising in a park at night) for years, even decades. dress the part and people
will trust you more.
>>3046114
i'm actually getting ready to go out and shoot for a few hours in the south bronx later tonight; this is how i'm dressed.

Take another
I mainly do street photog so I dress however I want, just according to the weather. Comfort is priority number 1, so running sneakers or any comfortable sneakers are usually the go-to. Everything else is just whatever
>>3046120
>>3046121
haha i know it's dweeby. but the idea is that it helps differentiate you from the people around you and make it clear that you're cognizant of your role as an interloper, and that makes people more willing to trust you. the photographer who told me about this has done great work in communities and subcultures where he is absolutely a stranger, and he attributes it to shit like this.
>>3046125
You're namefagging as "the best" and attribute everything you do through the acts of senpai. Dress like everyone else, the only reason you need to look professional is if someone hired to you to fulfill a role as a "professional". If you're just some street photographer walking around, there's no reason to elevate yourself as being better than everyone else. How do you dress if you're hired as a wedding photographer when everyone else is dressed for a formal occasion? Are you going to try to out-formal them wearing a 3 piece tuxedo and a bowler hat?
>>3046125
I hope you get stabbed.
>>3046132
this is a goofy ass post bro.
first of all, my (obviously ironic) name has nothing to do with shit.
second, there's a clear and obvious difference between the correct approach to shooting a wedding as a hired pro vs shooting strangers in public when they're engaged in intensely private activities and you need to gain their trust quicky. dressing like a "professional" in that situation gives you instant caché and adds weight to your explanation that you're a photographer. when you're approaching people to take their photo, blending in doesn't help but looking the part might.
i see nothing shameful in taking advice from a nationally-famous artist with decades of experience and applying it in situations where it's advantageous, and i think that dismissing that sort of thing as "obeying senpai" or whatever is going to hold you back.
>>3046138
Forgot your photograph. You're playing the role of a professional, at least present your place to the internet as not being some slob that casually throws his trash on the floor at home. Clean your mirror too when you take reflection selfies, it makes your clothing look like it has cum stains on it.
Stop talking about your "world renown" senpai, that's like bragging that your daddy is millionaire, it's anecdotal, no one is impressed, cares or believes you.
My /fa/ is JoJo villain aesthetic limited to only black and white clothes.
This is one of my shots.
Tried my hand at street photography today, and found people either gave me a funny look or smiled.

>>3046151
No lol. I just dress like a hipster art student. Can't find my card reader to take a decent photo and upload it. otherwise I'd share the street photography I took today wearing this.

The same shit that I wear when I'm not going out to take photos
I just dress formally if I have time to do so, but I usually just wear my normal clothes and blend in when doing photography in the city

where'd you get that fine fedora? i desperately need to add one to my ensemble so i can be classy as f*** LOL

Do hipster art students always stand like that or did someone just steal your wheelchair?
>>3046109
If I think there's a chance of anyone giving me shit because I don't look pro-photographer enough, I dress business casual. People just assume I'm a pro and I'm supposed to be there taking pictures. No one ever questions me, no one thinks I'm a creep. Like others say, you really need to show it through body language to be able to pull it off though. Always behave like you're doing what you're supposed to be doing, never doubt yourself.
For the most part, just jeans and a nice shirt.
>>3046161
I dunno dude, buy one at Walmart? I personally got this one customized and tailored to fit, my head is too oddly shaped near the back and crown, causing it to slide to one side or off completely when I move around a lot. If you really want a customized one, look around some fashion sites and find one that suites you. Just bear in mind that some folks can't pull the look off, go to a local clothing store and try a few on.

lol do i have to start using "/s" on posts like they do on leddit :-)
I shoot concert and dress like I normally dress whenever I'm in there. So usually a short sleeve button up with some pattern or design, black jeans, and black shoes. Sometimes I wear a denim jacket and that has a bunch of pins on it. But I have my first paid gig soon that I contracted privately through the performer and now I'm second guessing my attire because they want to meet before hand to get to know me. Should I dress more like a "Professional" ?
>>3046667
How popular is the band? Anything less than 2-3 well received albums in their given genre and a couple 1-2mo tours behind them I'd just go as you would normally dress. Otherwise spruce it up a bit more.
>>3046699
Theyre pretty new. Only just released an album and don't have any decent photos of them live. Ill probably just wear a subtle t shirt and a blazer. Show is just on a Wednesday anyways
>>3046702
desu senpai, if you just wear your normal show attire you'll be more comfortable in that setting, tends to make it easier to focus completely on the photos desu
>>3046702
>blazer
sperg out alert.
Just dress normally, band kids are absolute degerates anyway, they would barely percieve any attempt you made to treat them like adults, or behave like one yourself.
Once you've taken the photos, dodge their calls and texts for a week, then email them the dropbox link and an invoice.
>>3046754
Might as well dress normal. Wouldnt really call them kids. They're all older than me. Id say late twenties. Im 24

Leather jacket is good as it's casual and waterproof and warm if you do it up.
